Lions, Croatia tie
A last minute strike by Canadian Lions’ forward Evan Milward gave his side a 1-1 tie with Toronto Croatia at Birchmount Stadium, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday.
Milward lifted the ball over the oncoming Croatia goalkeeper George Azcurra to score from 20 yards, just when it appeared the winless Lions were about to suffer their sixth loss of the season against the only unbeaten side in the league. It’s the fourth tie for Canadian Lions and repeated a draw with Croatia on Friday night when the teams tied 2-2 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.
Toronto Croatia midfielder Boris Tomac gave Croatia a 1-0 lead at the 70th minute mark following a hard fought scoreless first half and 25 minutes into the second half when both teams failed with scoring opportunities.
Canadian Lions now have an 0-5-4 WLT record for 4 points at the foot of the International Conference, while Toronto Croatia maintained their unbeaten record with a 3-0-5 record for 14 points, good for third place in the same division.
