COMPLETE OPEN CANADA CUP SUMMARY

Portuguese advance

A goal at 88 minutes by defender Ryan Williams put a come-from-behind Portuguese Supra through to the Third Round of the Open Canada Cup with a 2-1 victory over Canadian Lions at The Soccer Centre Thursday.

Lions took the lead after 30 minutes by Evan Milward, his sixth of the season in a game delayed for 20 minutes midway through the first half by persistent lightening just to the south in the city of Toronto. But Helio Pereira of Portuguese Supra brought his team level with a strike at 64 minutes and Williams won the game at the 88th minute mark.

The five surviving teams from Round Two will be joined by London City for three Third Round games and the three surviving teams will be joined by the winning team from British Columbia. In British Columbia, 24 teams will soon have their playdowns in the Athletic Club of BC Challenge Cup, the winner moving into the Open Canada Cup semifinals. The four semifinal teams, three from Ontario and Quebec and one from British Columbia will move to Cove Road in London, Ontario for the final weekend and the Open Canada Cup Final on Monday, September 3.
