Herrera goals spell victory

Two goals by Toronto Croatia striker Hugo Herrera gave his side a 2-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves and preserved the Mississauga-based team’s unbeaten record while at Cove Road in London, the City scored a last-minute equalizer to tie Trois-Rivieres Attak 2-2, two games in the CSL Friday night.

Herrera scored at 13 minutes for a 1-0 lead at the interval at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, then increased Croatia’s lead to 2-0 at 62 minutes before St. Catharines midfielder Tony Mermigas reduced the lead at 64 minutes, a 2-1 final.

Toronto Croatia is the only team unbeaten with a 4-0-5 WLT record at this half way mark in the season, while St. Catharines are at 3-3-2 for 11 points.

It was an exciting finish at Cove Road where the visiting Trois-Rivieres Attak took the lead on a goal by forward Nicolas Lesage at the 12th minute mark, but Garsel Hazel of London City tied the game 1-1 at 35 minutes. Trois-Rivieres defender Alex Suprenant made it 2-1 at 90 minutes and London’s Gentjan Dervishi tied the score 2-2 with just a minute of added time remaining.

Trois-Rivieres are at the top of the National Division with a 4-3-3 record for 15 points, while London City remain at the foot of the same division with a 2-5-2 record for 8 points.
