Attak advance

Trois-Rivieres Attak eliminated its Quebec-based rival Jean-Talon 2007 from the Open Canada Cup by a 3-1 score at the Claude Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal Friday.

The CSL’s Attak took gradual control over Jean-Talon, considered one of the strongest amateur teams from the Concordia region of Quebec.

Forward Darko Kolic put Trois-Rivieres in front at 14 minutes and Nicolas Lesarge made it 2-0 at the 34th minute mark, a 2-0 half-time score.

Jean-Talon made the game interesting with a strike by Leo Incollingo at the 63rd minute mark but with 10 minutes remaining, Elkana Mamayard scored for the Attak, for a 3-1 final.

Trois-Rivieres Attak join London City, Portuguese Supra, Windsor Border Stars, North York Astros and Italia Shooters, all having already qualified for the Third Round of the popular Open Canada Cup. The Third Round draw will take place on Sunday, July 29.

In Round Three, the three successful teams from central Canada will be joined by the winning team from British Columbia where 24 teams are having their playdowns in the Athletic Club of BC Challenge Cup. The four semifinal teams will move to Cove Road in London, Ontario for the final weekend and the Open Canada Cup Final on Monday, September 3.

Should London City fail to advance from Round Three, they will have a wild card game opportunity to enter the semi-finals in keeping with the Open Canada Cup rules as they relate to the successful bid team to host the Open Canada Cup weekend.
