August 4, 2007 CSL Open Canada Cup Trois-Rivieres beat London City (from CSL media release)

HOST LONDON CITY HAVE ANOTHER OPEN CANADA CUP OPPORTUNITY
Saturday - August 4, 2007
It's Trois-Rivieres 6-0

Trois-Rivieres Attak defender Francois Boivin, playing in a midfield position, led his team with two goals as the Quebec team humbled London City 6-0 in Open Canada Cup Third Round action at Trois-Rivieres Saturday.

Attak’s Darko Kolic opened the scoring after just 5 minutes and Jean-Louis Besse made it 2-0 at the 20 minute mark for a 2-0 lead at the interval. Boivin scored his first goal, a well-placed header from a cross by Olivier Brett, at 64 minutes and midfielder Boubacar Coulibaly made it 4-0 three minutes later.

Cedric Joqueviel increased the score to 5-0 on a counter attack cleared from a London corner kick at 73 minutes and Boivin struck his second and Attak’s sixth at the 86th minute mark.

London City are not out of it yet, however, and will have a wild card opportunity to enter the semis.

In keeping with the Open Canada Cup Rules and Regulations (Rule 4.1.4) London City, as the host club for the Final Round (semi-finals and final), can advance to the semi-finals if they win a wild card game against one of the three central Canada teams still in the competition. The surviving team (Trois-Rivieres Attak, Portuguese Supra or Windsor Border Stars and the winner of the Italia Shooters vs. North York Astros) with the lowest goals for and against average will meet London City in the wild card game to decide which team advances to the semi-final.

The lowest goals for and against average will be determined by taking the total goals scored in the Open Canada Cup competition, deduct the total goals conceded and divide by the number of games played.

There are two more Third Round games to be played during the holiday weekend – both on Monday when Windsor Border Stars travel to Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke for a 4 p.m. clash with Portuguese Supra and just three hours later Italia Shooters are at home to North York Astros at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan. That’s a 7 o’clock start.
