ALL TEAMS SET FOR OPEN CANADA CUP FINALS

BC champions qualify

Teams from Canada’s three largest soccer provinces will meet in the Open Canada Cup Finals to be played in London during the Labour Day weekend, August 31 to September 3.

ColumbusClan FC of the Vancouver Metro Soccer League’s Premier Division and current British Columbia Provincial Champions, has won the British Columbia Athletic Club of BC Challenge Cup to be the western Canada qualifier to advance to the Open Canada Cup semifinals.

ColumbusClan defeated Athletic Club of BC 1-0 in a squeaker in the BC Challenge Cup final on August 12, a competition involving 24 teams. They will now meet the CSL’s two-time Open Canada Cup winners Windsor Border Stars in the first semifinal at London’s Cove Road ground on Saturday, September 1.

The Clan currently hold second spot in the highly rated VMSL Premier Division, just one point behind league-leading ICSF Inter and they are the current Senior Men’s champion in their province and will bid for the national title in October.

A wild card game between London City and Italia Shooters will be played on Friday, August 31 of the Open Canada Cup Final weekend and the winner of that game will meet Trois-Rivieres Attak of Quebec in the second semifinal the following day.

The Open Canada Cup Final will be played on Labour Day, Monday, September 3, a 4 o’clock kickoff.

Ottawa St. Anthony Italia are the current Open Canada Cup holders, having defeated the Toronto Lynx 2-0 in the final last September 24.
