Croatia continue winning

Toronto Croatia continued its 2007 unbeaten run with a 5-0 defeat of North York Astros, Canadian Lions surprised Serbian White Eagles, 3-2, and Portuguese Supra beat London City 4-1, three games in the CSL Sunday night.

Croatia forward Tihomir Maletic scored the opening goal in the 5-0 shutout of North York Astros at Esther Shiner Stadium, he found the net after just four minutes to add to his two goals scored when these two teams played to a 2-2 tie at The Hershey Centre on Friday.

Forward Tommy Ples increased Croatia’s lead to 2-0 six minutes later, then struck his second for a 3-0 Croatia lead at the 32nd minute mark. Croatia midfielder Robert Grnja took over the scoring role to find the net at the 37th minute and again at 79 minutes for a 5-0 final score.

Toronto Croatia now have a 7-0-7 WLT record for 28 points, tied with Serbian White Eagles for second spot in the International Division, these teams four points behind leaders and defending CSL champions Italia Shooters with 32 points.

Serbian White Eagles traveled to Birchmount Stadium looking for three points in their bid for the International Division title, but ran into a gritty Canadian Lions side that fought their way to a 3-2 victory when prolific scorer Evan Milward struck the winning goal when the teams were tied 2-2 at the 86th minute.

Serbia’s Sasa Viciknez had earlier opened the scoring from the penalty spot at the 32nd minute mark and Lions’ Nikola Miodrag tied it 1-1 just on halftime. Canadian Lions went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Milos Vucinic at 73 minutes, Serbia’s Gabriel Pop tied it 2-2 at 78 minutes, his 10th of the season, before Milward’s winner.

Canadian Lions improve to 3-6-7 for 16 points in fourth position in the International Division, while Serbian White Eagles have a 9-4-1 record for 28 points.

Portuguese Supra were back on a winning track with a convincing 4-1 defeat of London City at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke. Forward Jessie Barcia opened the scoring for Portuguese at the 37th minute mark, Kevin MacIntosh made it 2-0 five minutes later, the score at halftime.

Ronald Nicholas put the home side 3-0 up at the 70th minute and Alban Vuktilaj increased the Portuguese lead to 4-0 two minutes later. Travis Gordon scored the lone London marker at 80 minutes, a 4-1 final score.

Portuguese Supra improve to 4-9-3 for 15 points in the International Division, while London City are at 3-9-2 for 11 points.
