Italia Shooters, the current CSL champions, took a big step forward in their bid for additional honours with a 4-2 victory over London City Friday night, a wild card game to decide who goes forward to the semifinals of the Open Canada Cup this weekend.

The popular competition launched by the Canadian Soccer League has four teams from three provinces remaining and they will come together Saturday when Friday’s winner will meet Trois-Riviers Attak from Quebec in the second game. BC champions Columbus Clan FC will meet Windsor Border Stars in the opener.

Italia’s Kadian Lecky opened the scoring with a goal at 31 minutes, his 10th of the season, but London City, the Open Canada Cup final weekend host team, tied the score on a goal by Garson Hazel at the 36th minute mark.

Following a 1-1 tie at the interval London City were reduced to 10 men when Camilo Gonzalez was ejected on a red card after being shown a second yellow.

Italia went ahead 2-1 on a goal by midfielder Joshua Jaramilo at 75 minutes and three minutes later Italia midfielder Geron Duporte struck a third.

London fought back and was rewarded with a goal at 80 minutes by Roy Beishuizen for a 3-2 score but Chris Turner, the Shooters’ defender put the game out of reach of the 10-men London with a goal at the 81st minute mark, a 4-2 final result.
