Wolves stretch lead

Two late goals gave St. Catharines Wolves a 2-1 victory over visiting Portuguese Supra when the CSL returned to regular league action at Club Roma, St. Catharines Wednesday night.

With Portuguese Supra at the foot of the International Division and fighting for a playoff spot with one month to go in the regular schedule, the Toronto-based team took a 1-0 lead at the 11th minute mark on a goal by Helio Pereira, his ninth of the season.

The goal held up until the Garden City team were awarded a penalty kick at 79 minutes and defender Matt Waddington took the kick to find the net to the left of Portuguese goalkeeper Michael Silva, a 1-1 tie.

With 5 minutes of regular time remaining, St. Catharines’ Stepfen Kamendy struck the all important winner to give the home side the three points.

St. Catharines (18 games) stretched their lead at the top of the National Conference to five points in front of Trois-Rivieres Attak (16 games). The Wolves have a 8-4-6 WLT record while the Quebec-based Attak have a 6-3-7 record.

Portuguese Supra have a 4-10-3 record for 15 points.
