Playoff venues announced

North York Astros and Windsor Border Stars have clinched the last two playoff spots as a result of the two final regular season games played in the CSL Sunday night. The Astros needed a tie and they held Italia Shooters scoreless, while Portuguese Supra needed a win but were held to a 2-2 tie by Canadian Lions, resulting in the last playoff berth going to Windsor.

North York and Windsor join Serbian White Eagles, St. Catharines Wolves, Toronto Croatia, Trois-Rivieres Attak, Italia Shooters and Canadian Lions in the CSL playoffs which kickoff with the first quarterfinal games on Saturday, October 13.

It was a hard fought mostly midfield contest between Italia and North York Astros at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, a game the Shooters needed to win to take the runner-up position in the International Division. The one point was not enough and the York Region-based side ended its regular season with an 11-4-7 WLT record for 40 points, one point behind Toronto Croatia with Serbian White Eagles winning the division with 45 points.

North York Astros ended its regular season with a 5-12-5 record for 20 points for third position in the National Division, won by St. Catharines Wolves, with Trois-Rivieres Attak finishing in the runner-up position.

Portuguese Supra needed three points to clinch the playoff berth that eventually went to Windsor Border Stars, but Portuguese could only muster the 2-2 tie against a much-improved Canadian Lions at Centennial Stadium. Portuguese took the lead in that game on a goal by Alex Arbelo at 23 minutes, but Craig Patton scored his first of two goals for the Lions at 35 minutes to tie the game. Alban Vuktilaj put Portuguese in front at 53 minutes and Patton scored his second three minutes later for the 2-2 tie.

Portuguese Supra ended its season with a 4-13-5 record for 17 points, while Canadian Lions have an end of regular season 6-7-9 record for 27 points.

The following quarterfinal games leading to the semifinals on October 20 and 21 and the CSL Championship Final on Sunday, October 28, will be:

(3) Toronto Croatia vs. North York Astros (6) (tentatively at The Hershey Centre, Sunday, October 14 at 5.30 p.m.)
(4) Trois-Rivieres Attak vs. Italia Shooters (5) (tentatively at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec on Saturday, October 13 at 4 p.m.)

All venues will be confirmed on Tuesday, October 9.
