In an on-field ceremony before the CSL Final game on Sunday October 26th, 2008 awards were given out in a number of categories.

The player awards were chosen this year for the first time by the coaches of the leagues rather than the owners.

Defender of the Year:…Carlos Zeballos of North York Astros

Rookie of the Year…Adrian Pena of TFC Academy
(Yes he was dropped by that team when his parents got into a post game altercation with players from Portugal FC).

Coach of the Year…Rafael Carbajal of North York Astros

Top Goalscorer and Most Valuable Player…Daniel Nascimento of Brampton Lions

Referee of the Year…Isaac Raymond (who called today’s game)

Goalkeeper of the Year…Andrew Olivieri of Trois-Rivieres Attak

International Conference Winner and Reserve Division Winner…Italia Shooters

National Conference Winner and Fair Play and Respect Award…Trois-Rivieres Attak

I asked league commissioner Cary Kaplan about league plans for next year. Most items will be decided at their winter meetings on February 7th. (Last year the TFC Academy team came into the league at the absolute last minute).
Expansion? African Icons are a likely member next year (they were delayed from entering last year)
……………..Quebec City are doubtful (they were delayed from entering last year)…Joey Saputo has territorial rights for the province.
…………….two ownership groups are proposing getting a franchise in Hamilton.
…………….Any teams West of Ontario are definitely NOT next year.
