Tommy Ples opened Croatia scoring in Saturday's game

A late goal gave Italia Shooters 1-1 tie with Portugal FC Sunday, while on Saturday, Toronto Croatia dominated North York Astros 4-1, Trois-Rivieres Attak handed St. Catharines Wolves their first defeat of the season, a 3-0 score, and Brampton were too strong for TFC Academy in a 3-1 victory for the Lions.

Following a well-played, scoreless first half, midfielder Carlos Nogueira struck for Portugal FC at 46 minutes against Italia Shooters in the game played at Maple on Sunday and the goal held up until the 85th minute mark when Julio Garcia scored from a free kick.

Following a direct free kick awarded by referee G.Facchini, the kick was struck perfectly from 32 yards by Garcia to escape the Portugal wall, leaving goalkeeper Mike Silva little chance to prevent the ball entering the net.

The 1-1 score held until the final whistle to give Italia a 2-3-1 record for seven points in the International Division, while the draw leaves Portugal with a 2-1-3 record for nine points and second place in that division.

On Saturday, forward Tommy Ples opened the scoring at 22 minutes for Toronto Croatia at Downsview Park and midfielder Mario Pupic made it 2-0 at 38 minutes from the penalty spot after referee David Barrie awarded a penalty for tripping. Pupic was playing his last game before returning to Croatia.

Croatia forward Niko Pesa increased the lead to 3-0 at 41 minutes, the score at half-time and into the second half, Nick Miodrag of North York Astros was ejected at 59 minutes after being shown a second yellow card.

North York Astros showed some promise of a recovery despite playing with 10 men and at 77 minutes Diego Maradona scored to cut the lead to 3-1. Five minutes later, however, Pesa struck his second goal for a 4-1 Toronto Croatia lead and the final score.

Toronto Croatia remains unbeaten with a 5-0-1 WLT record for 16 points to take a commanding early lead in the International Division, while the Astros are still winless in five games played.

Brampton’s Daniel Nascimento opened the scoring just three minutes after the kickoff in the game against TFC Academy, an impressive strike from 18 yards in a second relocated game played at Downsview Park, a change in the venue necessitated by the closing of the Toronto stadiums during the outdoor workers’ strike.

Midfielder Agustin Demedina scored Brampton’s second goal at 36 minutes for a 2-0 score at the interval and forward David Guzman made it 3-0 five minutes into the second half.

Midfielder Daniel Calabretta struck TFC Academy’s lone goal for a 3-1 final score.

Brampton Lions now have a 2-2-1 record for seven points, fourth in the National Division, a point behind TFC Academy with a 2-2-2 record and eight points.

Forward Reda Aggourram scored two late goals for Trois-Rivieres Attak in their home encounter with St. Catharines Wolves, the goals coming at 74 and 94 minutes after Mircea Ilcu opened the scoring for the Quebec side at the 24th minute mark. It was a 3-0 final score which handed St. Catharines Wolves their first defeat of the season and moves the Attak to the top of the National Division. They have a 4-2-0 record for 12 points, two in front of theWolves and their 3-1-1 record for 10 points.
