Attendance was about 60 on this hot day with a bright sun in the west but a strong breeze from that direction with the sun getting hazier in the second half.

Lions got off to a dream start with their early goal in both the first half and the restart. I’m not sure how David Guzman felt after scoring his goal as he didn’t gloat that he’d made it a three goal lead. Guzman was a reserve on the MLS Toronto FC in their inaugural year of 2007 then last year played for Chicago Fire’s PDL team.

TFCA had enough chances to tie. At 55 minutes, Allando Matheson intercepted a ball on the left and he shot a 12 yarder that hit the top of bar on the right. Three minutes later he took a shot from 15 yards on the left that had the goalie tip over the bar. The coaching team looked like geniuses when they did a multi sub at 59 minutes bringing in Daniel Calabretta, Jonathan Lao and Zaki Pera for Feras Samain, Ashtone Morgan, and Brennan McNicoll and then Calabretta scoring within 30 seconds of coming on. At 68 minutes Daniel DiBiago got to Jonathan Lao’s 20 yard freekick and headed the ball over the net from 5 yards. At 71 minutes James Stamopoulos’s 25 yard shot from the right is just over the bar. At 82 minutes Stamopoulos rushed on the left and crossed along the end line from 15 yards and had Matheson kick the ball wide left from 5 yards while even with the left post.

Referee Matt Arduini may have given possibly one yellow card the whole game with two minutes to go but I wasn’t even sure if it was a card.

Lions climb to a record of 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie and now TFC Academy fall to 2-2-2. Both of these teams are middle of the pack playoff teams at this early stage of the season. Eight of the ten teams qualify for the playoffs.

TFCA had to move this game from Lamport Stadium which was going to be played Sunday afternoon but couldn’t play at that venue because of the City of Toronto workers’ strike. This game was played right after the North York Astros vs. Toronto Croatia game was over (a game that also had to be moved). Next game for TFC Academy is a ‘road’ game against Portugal FC but because both teams call Lamport Stadium ‘home’ watch for this game to be moved.
