2009-07-10

Brampton Lions’ forward Nordo Gooden led his team with two goals to a 5-1 victory over winless London City at the Cove Road ground in London, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night.

Gooden opened the scoring when he beat City goalkeeper Chris Davis at the 12th minute mark, then added a second to make it 2-0 at 29 minutes.

Lions’ forward David Guzman added a third goal at the 43rd minute for a 3-0 lead at half-time to end a half in which the visitors had good control of the play throughout.

Midfielder Alban Vyktilaj increased the lead to 4-0 at 78 minutes and Jeremy Shepherd made it 5-0 for Brampton eight minutes later.

London City player-coach Andrew Loague struck at the 90th minute to reduce the score to 5-1 in favour of Brampton and that score held up until the final whistle.

The result improves Brampton Lions to a 3-3-1 record for 10 points and fourth position in the National Division, while London City remain winless at the foot of the table.

There are four remaining games in the Canadian Soccer League over the weekend, three of which are games relocated from other stadiums now closed during the City of Toronto civic workers strike.
