Serbian White Eagles handed National Division leaders Trois-Rivieres Attak their second defeat in a two-game weekend swing through Toronto, a 2-1 score on Sunday, while Italia Shooters also gained a narrow victory by defeating TFC Academy 1-0 at Maple and Brampton Lions were held to a 1-1 tie with Portugal FC.

Serbian White Eagles handed National Division leaders Trois-Rivieres Attak their second defeat of a two-game trek to Ontario this weekend, a 2-1 result at Downsview Park on Sunday afternoon to follow the 3-2 loss to North York Astros on Saturday night.

Eagles’ forward Kiril Dimitrov put his team ahead at the 40th minute mark for a 1-0 lead at half-time and Jonathan Hurtis scored a second for Serbian White Eagles three minutes into the second half.

Trois-Rivieres Attak forward Reda Agourram scored for the Quebec side at 51 minutes, but the 2-1 score in favour of the home side held until the final whistle.

Serbian White Eagles improve to a 4-1-2 record for 14 points in second place in the International Division, six points behind the leaders Toronto Croatia who were idle this weekend. Trois-Rivieres hold on to the top position in the National Division with a 6-4-0 record for 18 points, still five points in front of St. Catharines who were also without a game this weekend.

The win by Italia Shooters was their third of the season and the only goal of the game came from the penalty spot at 77 minutes when TFC Academy right back Jordan Kotsopolous handled the ball in the box. Italia’s Geron Duporte beat the academy goalkeeper Soitiri Varlokostas for the 1-0 lead and the eventual score at the final whistle.

Italia Shooters remain in fourth position in the International Division despite the victory, they now have a 3-5-1 record for 10 points, while TFC Academy are at 3-3-3 for 12 points in the National Division.

Forward David Guzman opened the scoring for Brampton Lions at the 7th minute mark to put the home side in front 1-0 at Victoria Park, but just three minutes later Portugal FC tied the game when midfielder Gustavo Serranos scored from the penalty spot.

Brampton have a 3-3-2 WLT record for 11 points following the tie and now sit in fourth position in the International Division, just a point behind third-place TFC Academy, while Portugal with their fifth tie in nine games improve to 2-2-5 for 11 points and third place in the International Division.
