ST. CATHARINES WOLVES AND ITALIA SHOOTERS DEADLOCK 1-1 WEDNESDAY NIGHT ..........both teams in action again this coming weekend

Italia Shooters, unbeaten in five games since July 11, tied St. Catharines Wolves 1-1 at Club Roma, St. Catharines, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.

It was an entertaining encounter despite the few opportunities for both sides to find a winning goal with the game tied 1-1 late in the second half.

Following a goal-less first half, St. Catharines’ forward Joe DelPriore put his side 1-0 up with a drive that gave Italia goalkeeper Camilo Benzi little chance, the goal coming at the 63rd minute mark.

But it was just six minutes later that Shooters’ forward Aundrae Rollins tied the game 1-1 with a shot inside the right post out of reach of Wolves ‘keeper Claudio Perri.

The two teams fought mostly in the midfield and except for Italia Shooters hitting the woodwork and a miscue by Wolves’ midfielder Simon Murphy in front of the Italia net, both in the second half, there were no opportunities for a winning goal.

The tie gives St. Catharines Wolves a 3-2-6 WLT record for 15 points and second place, one point ahead of Brampton Lions and TFC Academy in the National Division and the Wolves return to action at Brampton on Sunday, while the Shooters now have a 6-5-2 record for 20 points, good for third place in the International Division and they will meet TFC Academy on Saturday.
