BRAMPTON LIONS SURPRISE HIGH FLYING SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES 3-1...........Lions in sole possession of second place in the National Division

Brampton Lions won their third game in two weeks with a deserved 3-1 victory over a recently high-flying Serbian White Eagles at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night.

Serbian Eagles, with eight wins from their last nine games and bidding in earnest for the International Division title and determined to successfully defend their CSL Championship title, were much favoured to defeat the visiting Brampton team.

In-form midfielder Daniel Nascimento opened the scoring for Brampton at 21 minutes to add to the two goals in a 3-0 win on August 16, but Sasa Viciknez scored from a direct free kick at 32 minutes to level the score 1-1 for SerbianWhite Eagles. It was the 7th goal of the season for the prolific Viciknez.

Following the 1-1 tie at the interval, Lions’ David Guzman put his side in front 2-1 at 47 minutes - that was Guzman’s 9th of the season - and 10 minutes later Brampton Lions took a 3-1 lead at 57 minutes when midfielder Agustin de Medina struck from 20 yards to find the net out of the reach of newcomer goalkeeper Jason Ferreirinha.

The win improves Brampton Lions to a 6-5-2 WLT record for 20 points, to give the Lions sole possession of second place in the National Division, while Serbia is in second position in the International Division with an 8-2-2 record for 26 points.
