VUKOVIC HAT-TRICK GIVES TFC 3-1 VICTORY IN OPENER - First TFC Academy game for impressive striker Saturday, May 07, 2011 Three goals by TFC Academy striker Stefan Vukovic gave his side a 3-1 victory over Montreal Impact Academy in the CSL season opener at Lamport Stadium in Toronto`s west-end Friday night. The 18 year old senior academy player struck at 40 minutes, again five minutes later just before the interval and scored his third to complete the hat-trick at the 75th minute mark. It was a come-from-behind win for Toronto FC following an opening goal at just four mnutes by Montreal’s Serge Dinkota who took a cross from the left wing to hit a rising shot past TFC goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo from the six yard line. Vukovic was noticed by Toronto FC while playing for the Serbian White Eagles reserve squad in 2010 and he played several games for the First Division team alongside several European veterans.in a team always in contention for CSL league honors. “Stefan is a natural goalscorer, technically good and has a very good work rate and it’s great to see a player like him make such an impact with three goals” said Stuart Neely, the Toronto FC academy director. The game was the first of 182 in a CSL First Division campaign that runs through to the CSL Championship Final at the end of October. Montreal Impact Academy move to Windsor for a game with Windsor Stars at Windsor Stadium Saturday night at 7pm. It’s the home opener and a return to the professional level for the border city which has a long history in the game played both sides of the border. TFC Academy move to Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke for a clash with expansion team Mississauga Eagles FC and there is one other game this weekend when York Region Shooters open their season against Serbian White Eagles at the Joan of Arc ground in Maple.
