SC TORONTO MARCHES ON AT THE TOP - Capital City FC wins while Montreal vs Serbian Eagles tie. SC Toronto widened the gap at the top of the First Division with a 2-1 victory over Mississauga Eagles while Capital City FC defeated London City 5-1 and Montreal Impact Academy were held to a 2-2 tie by Serbian White Eagles, three games in the CSL Friday night. SC Toronto made it clear they are going to be tough to dislodge from the top of the First Division after taking all three points in the game with Mississauga Eagles played at Lamport Stadium in Toronto’s west end. The Toronto side took the lead during a close, well played first half and it was forward Andrea Lombardo who found the net at the 18th minute when he picked up a well placed through ball to the right of the Mississauga goal and carefully slotted it just inside the far post. Mississauga Eagles’ forward Shawn Brown scored the equalizer at the 25th minute mark when he drove the ball into the net from close range past Scott Cliff in the SC Toronto goal. It was 1-1 at half-time. SC Toronto defender Gerard Ladiyou scored the winner for the home side, the goal coming off a corner kick at the 61 minute mark. Both sides had opportunities to score in the latter stages, but none more than Mississauga’s Dave Simpson who volleyed the ball over the crossbar with only the goalkeeper to best from 8 yards. It was 2-1 at the final whistle. Capital City FC continued their impressive bid for First Division honours and they took the lead at the 26th minute mark at Cove Road in London, a goal by forward Junior Ellis who found the net from 6 yards. Akil DeFreitas made it 2-0 for the visitors when he scored from the penalty spot at 30 minutes, Kenny Caceros increased the lead to 3-0 four minutes later and midfielder Collin Harrison scored a fourth for the Ottawa team, a 4-0 score at the break. Capital City forward Garrett Webb increased the lead to 5-0 at 46 minutes and Younan Samra struck from the penalty spot for a London City goal at 64 minutes, a 5-1 final score. Montreal Impact Academy is a top contender for league honours and they played to a 2-2 with Serbian White Eagles who are on the fringes and need points for a higher placing. Montreal took the lead on a goal by midfielder Wandrille Lefevre who found the net after 10 minutes, but Serbian Eagles’ forward Alex Braletic tied the game 1-1 at 38 minutes following some good play by Milos Scepanovic. Braletic put his side into a 2-1 lead with a goal at 50 minutes, his seventh of the season, and following missed opportunities by the home side, Montreal Impact Academy tied the game on a goal by defender Maxim Tissot at 67 minutes and the game ended 2-2.
