SERBIAN EAGLES AND BRANTFORD GALAXY BATTLE TO SCORELESS TIE TUESDAY With both teams fighting for a playoff berth – one of the top eight positions in the CSL First Division standings – neither Brantford Galaxy or Serbian White Eagles wanted the scoreless tie played in Brantford Tuesday night. It was the only game played in a rare Tuesday night game in the CSL. The first half at picturesque Lions Park in Brantford was played cautiously by both teams with few opportunities for finding the net, but the second half picked up considerably and the game opened up as the half progressed, perhaps when both teams realized an important three points were there for the taking. Serbian Eagles’ defender Mirko Medic was a tower of the strength during this time and Rade Novkovic was similarly solid on defence for the home side. The best opportunity to score came from Brantford's former OFK Belgrade forward Nened Begovic, who in added time struck a free kick from 25 yards just wide of the left post with Serbian Eagles’ goalkeeper Milos Djurkovic beaten. Serbian White Eagles improve to an 8-5-7 WLT record for 31 points and move into seventh in the standings, while the defending CSL champions Galaxy now have a 8-9-3 record for 27 points in ninth position. In the first game between these two teams, Serbian White Eagles took the three points with a 2-1 win on June 3. There is one game in the CSL Thursday when league-leading SC Toronto visit Brampton City Utd at Victoria Park. That’s an 8.30 pm kickoff.
