SC WATERLOO ENDS UNBEATEN RUN OF CURRENT CSL CHAMPS TORONTO CROATIA A goal at 20 minutes of the first half by expansion club SC Waterloo put to an end the season-long unbeaten run of the current CSL champions Toronto Croatia, while two other games in the CSL Sunday ended in ties, a 4-4 score between York Region Shooters and Brampton City Utd and a 2-2 tie in the game between Montreal Impact Academy and Mississauga Eagles FC. It was a left foot drive by Waterloo midfielder Drazen Vukovic that ended the Toronto Croatia streak at the Seagram Stadium in Waterloo and it ended the record of the last CSL First Division team to hold the distinction of being unbeaten during the current campaign. For the Waterloo Region side, the victory helped to make amends for the 6-1 loss in the hands of Toronto Croatia on May 27. Toronto Croatia still hold to top position in the standings despite Sunday’s defeat, they have a 6-1-2 WLT record for 20 points, while SC Waterloo improve to a 4-6-0, good for 12 points Forward Alexander King put Montreal Impact Academy in front 1-0 at 39 minutes against Mississauga Eagles at the St Jean De Vianney ground in Montreal after taking a cross from Wandrille Lefevre. The home side went ahead 2-0 when Impact first team defender Calum Mallace playing his first game for the academy side, headed in out of reach of Mississauga goalkeeper Kofi Oppong. It was 2-0 at half-time. A win for the academy team looked secure until Jose Melo headed in for Mississauga Eagles at the 87th minute mark and Thomas McLean scored the equalizer at 91 minutes for the 2-2 final score. It was a ding-dong struggle between York Region Shooters and Brampton City Utd at the Joan of Arc ground in Maple where the visitors gained then lost the lead throughout the game, beginning with a goal at 23 minutes when forward Milos Scepanovic beat York Region goalkeeper Camilo Benzi for a 1-0 score. Alex Braletic made it 2-0 for Brampton at 37 minutes, but the lead was cancelled out by goals from York Region forward Jason De Thomasis at 38 minutes, then Alex Trujillo at 44 minutes for a 2-2 tie before York Region’s Andre Rollins put the home side ahead 3-2 at the break. Scepanovic scored his second goal and Brampton’s third to tie the game 3-3 at 85 minutes, then Brampton edged into the lead 4-3 on a goal by David Velastagui three minutes later. Andre Manders of York Region levelled the scores 4-4 shortly before the final whistle. York Region Shooters played the last 28 minutes short handed after referee Justin Tasev showed the red card to Andre Stewart for violent conduct. It is York Region Shooters sixth draw in 10 games, they now have a 3-1-6 record for 15 points, while Brampton City Utd have a 4-2-3 record, also 15 points.
