Pittsburgh extends unbeaten streak to seven with 2-1 win

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Neco Brett and Kevin Kerr each found the back of the net as the Bob Lilley-led
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC extended its league-leading unbeaten streak to seven matches with a 2-1
victory over Toronto FC II on Saturday at Marina Auto Stadium. Brett opened the scoring in the
12th minute, notching his team-leading fifth goal of the season when a ball played back from the
end line by Kevin Kerr found its way to his foot and enabled him to slot his shot into the
far corner. In the 36th minute, Brett returned the favor when his first-time ball found a streaking
Kerr at the top of the box and the veteran found the bottom right for his first goal
of the 2018 campaign. The Hounds would need no more insurance as a stoppage-time strike from
substitute Shaan Hundal proved too little, too late for the hosts. Pittsburgh improved
to 4-0-3 (15pts) overall while Toronto fell to 0-5-2 (2pts) in the first of four games
to be hosted at Rochester’s recently renamed Marina Auto Stadium this season.

Scoring:
12’ – PGH – Neco Brett
36’ – PGH – Kevin Kerr (Neco Brett)
90+1’ – TOR – Shaan Hundal (Mariano Miño)

#TORvPGH: Highlights and Opta Box Score

Three Things That Matter:

1. One of the premier defensive sides in the league, Pittsburgh has now allowed just three goals
in seven matches under head coach Bob Lilley, who is in his first season in the Steel City.
The Hounds fell just short of their sixth shutout of the season, and their second against Toronto
after securing a 4-0 home win on April 7, despite limiting TFCII to just three shots on target.

2. After being limited to just seven appearances with Portland Timbers 2 in 2017, Neco Brett
has exploded onto the scene in Pittsburgh, accounting for five of the team’s 10 goals through
seven matches. The Jamaican earned 22 starts for Portland in 2016 and now owns 12 goals
in his USL career.

3. Laurent Guyot’s Toronto side continued to struggle offensively as Hundal’s stoppage time
strike marked just the team’s third goal in seven matches this season. TFC has allowed their
opponent to score first in five of seven outings to this point of the season and has played
from in front for only 53 of a possible 630 minutes, 51 of which came in a season-opening loss
to New York Red Bulls II.
