Canadian international records 14th shutout of season, setting USL single-season record

TORONTO – It was, officially, one of Ottawa Fury FC goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau’s quietest nights
of the season. In fact, the Canadian international didn’t officially record a save in his side’s
1-0 victory against Toronto FC II at Lamport Stadium.

But while his night was limited to some sharp takes of crossed deliveries from the hosts over
the course of the night, it was a record-setting one for the 24-year-old as he recorded
his 14th shutout of the season to set a new USL modern-era record, surpassing the 13 shutouts
recorded by Brandon Miller in the 2015 for the Rochester Rhinos.

Having made 79 saves already this season – putting him fourth in the league going into Wednesday
night’s action – the quality that Crepeau has shown throughout the year certainly made him worthy
of the honor.

“It’s wonderful,” said Fury FC Head Coach Nikola Popovic. “I’ve always said that he is the future
of the Canadian national team and he does make me proud.

“I think the way the team defends, we also have to start looking at other players for the national
team because the Canadians are performing in this very difficult league is fantastic and I think
everybody can watch and witness this. These players are showing that they have a lot of quality
and that they just need the opportunity.”

The shutout came in a critical victory for Fury FC, which remained in the playoff positions in the
Eastern Conference thanks to Steevan Dos Santos’ first-half penalty kick. The win sets up another
crucial contest this Sunday as Fury FC welcomes the side sitting one point and one place ahead
of it in the Eastern Conference standings, Bethlehem Steel FC, to TD Place.

With only two games remaining in its regular season, the contest could be do or die for Fury FC
depending on Saturday night’s results, raising the stakes again as Ottawa looks to claim its
first trip to the USL Cup Playoffs.

“The momentum is nothing if you don’t bring the three points home,” said Popovic of his side’s
victory. “The moment you get the three points, now the next game is the most important one.
And we have to go like this until the end of the season.”
