Final Score:.......York 9 FC.......0.......HFX Wanderers FC........0........

Attendance was not announced but the canpl.ca site ended up listing it as 2101. I certainly would say
that's overstated but this was the largest home crowd since the opening game hosting Forge FC which
was puffed up by travelling Forge fans. The east side stands were closed again today. That was where
the youth clubs were supposed to sit when plans were announced for this stadium. I haven't seen any
youth clubs here this season except the few they can rustle up to be ball kids.

Speaking about that Forge home game, today they showed on the scoreboard a new caption 'PLEASE EVACUATE
THE STADIUM' on a red coloured background in showing new emergency procedures--hopefully that's more
clear than what we saw that first day. "ALL CLEAR" on green and "ALL CLEAR THE FIELD" on red which stirred
the confusion when they displayed them at the wrong time and sent people home when the game was delayed
by lightning.

The weather was perfect--warm and sunny and that forecast for today was predicted days ago by the weather
and news channels. This was the third game of York's four game home stand. I've run out of excuses
to explain the team's poor attendance.

Message board estimates put the crowd at 1000. There is certainly no media coverage in Toronto and things
are unlikely to change until July 10th when MLS Montreal Impact are here for the next round of the Canadian
Championship. Tickets for that game are offered for only $9.00.

If either team had won they would have jumped up the standing to third place in the league. York was
on a three league game unbeaten streak which started May 29th with a 1-1 tie in Halifax against
HFX Wanderers.

York is in a three way tie for fourth with HFX Wanderers and Pacific FC at 8 points. Their record
of 1 win, 2 losses, and 5 ties mean they are listed as sixth of seven team because they have one less win
than those other teams. Their number off ties is three more than any other team.

Both York and HFX have only scored 6 goals in 8 games which is second worst to FC Edmonton's 2 in 7 games
so it wasn't fair to expect this to be a 4-4 slugfest. Actually no CPL team has scored more than three
goals in league nor Canadian Championship games.

It's frustrating to watch York's inability to score. They remind me of some years of the Toronto Lynx
who were good defensively but couldn't score and if they fell one goal behind, the game was just about over.
Two best chances were at 37 minutes when Manny Aparicio was pushed over and didn't win a Penalty kick
(wow everyone on OneSoccer agreed on this) and at 59 minutes when Luca Gasparotto looked like he would
run himself and the ball into the net from 6 yards but left the ball behind.

It turned out HFX were late getting here being held up in traffic. Wow that's not even weeknight rush
hour traffic! They also have a lot of players not here because of injury but they did have seven
subs on the bench. They also have not scored on the road this season (in league games as I was at
Vaughan to watch them win 3-2 in a Canadian Championship game).

HFX have four players from Trinidad & Tobago on the team. Goalie Jan Michael Williams, midfielders
Akeem Garcia and Andre Rampersad were all starters today. Midfielder Elton John was kept on the
bench and didn't make an appearance. Other famous showbiz namesake Emilio Estevez did sub in for
York at 55 minutes.

By the time I got home the Cavalry FC vs Forge FC game was on and Forge scored early and held on to win 1-0
in Calgary putting an end to Cavalry's perfect record of 7 league wins 4 Canadian Championship wins.
I thought they'd keep going until they meet MLS Vancouver Whitecaps in the next round
of the Canadian Championships.

Today's game was broadcast on CBC Gem (their online site) which means it won't be seen by as many viewers
as their over the airwaves service but is free for those who don't have a OneSoccer subscription. Of course
today's game was running against the Women's World Cup Round of 16 games as competition.

York's next game is Wednesday night against Cavalry FC--certainly the most glamorous team but attendance
will be hurt among 'overlapping' fans as Toronto FC are hosting current MLS Championship holders Atlanta
United at the same times in downtown Toronto.

While at the game we were handed a media release outline the season ending final which will be a two game
(away goal rules) series on the weekends of October 26th and 27th and November 2nd and 3rd. Ok that
was a huge unanswered question from the start of the season. That final weekend could be very cold
in most cities across Canada. MLS playoffs would end exactly one month later in years past but starting
this year with one-game and you're out series, their final will be November 10.
