with the two games separated by the center line. The video board shows League 1 Ontario

as all the MLS games started at exactly the same time on their 'Decision Day'.

Attendance was announced as 4864. That is about double of what York draws per game but this looked emptier even at the lower deck level because they have an entire football stadium to fill and use both sides of the field. Travelling fans support was negligible. There was a Toronto FC home game at the same time which turned out to be important for a possible home game in the MLS playoffs. TFC won so their home playoff date will be the same day as York's final home game 'Fan Appreciation Day' so that will no doubt hurt attendance. York fans know they will not make the two team playoff series so that would also have a slight effect on today's game. There were not many chances in the first half with some good defending by both teams. Only two shots on target by both teams in the opening half. By the end of the game it was 5-3 for York for 'shots on'. York looked good playing on a larger field. They had won their last two road games. It may be disappointing that their homefield will not be getting wider as word is out that the running track will not be removed next season. Referee Fabrizio Stasolla gave out only three Yellow cards during the game. His calling of the two Penalty kicks worked out as they could both be considered controversial but correct. He is one of the game officials (actually three out of four) that worked in the L1O league last year. (Actually the total number of officials mentioned at the L1O lunch held hours earlier is eight). Quillan Roberts earned his fourth shutout of the season. He shares goaltending duties with Triston Henry or he probably would have more. I feel he would have saved that Penalty kick by Gattas at the very end as he had that post well covered if the shot hadn't gone wide. Poor Diyaeddine Abzi was burned again for a handball in the box. This one he had his back turned on a header attempt that he overshot and Tristan Borges maybe two yards behind him headed off his arm. Abzi was burned in the Canadian Championship by Montreal Impact's Ignacio Piatti flicking a cross right in front of him off his outstretched arm also giving up a Penalty kick. Marcel Zajac almost cost Forge the win by first pushing over Ryan Telfer in injury time to set up a freekick then pushing over Rodrigo Gattas on that freekick taken by Telfer to concede the Penalty kick all withing a minute. Tristan Borges scored his twelfth goal of the season which leads the league in his race with Terran Campbell of Pacific FC. The field still had football lines and numbers visible although an attempt was made to scrub them off. There were and will be more CFL football games over the next few weeks. First game of the CPL final series will be held in Hamilton because the next week the Ti-Cats will be on the field. So much for the CPL Fall Champion deciding on which leg they want to host! York has now never beaten Forge in four games. Their best result was the league's inaugural game when they played to a 1-1 tie. York, it can be said, was well rested as they were the only team that didn't play on Wednesday night. Forge had travelled to Edmonton and won 1-0 to not lose any ground to Cavalry. York and Forge meet next Saturday at York Lions Stadium but first Forge have to travel to Cavalry to play a rescheduled game from Tuesday July 30th. Next Saturday's York vs Forge game was originally scheduled for Wednesday August 28th. Because of Forge's long run in the CONCACAF League, many of their midweek games were postponed and now they have a grueling schedule to complete so all teams can finish on October 19th. Maybe that is the best way for York to win? Play an exhausted Forge FC? Forge's record improves to 10 wins, 1 loss and 4 ties for 34 points in the Fall Season and pass Cavalry FC who had won yesterday to pass them with a 2-0 win over HFX Wanderers FC. It was Forges extend their unbeaten streak to fourteen games which dates back to the first game of the Fall Season. York stays in fourth place with their record falling to 5 wins, 7 losses, 3 ties for 17 points. I hadn't planned on being here until I was invited to the League 1 Ontario Luncheon that was held at Tim Horton's Field a few hours before the CPL game started. Yep!
