Diyaeddine Abzi Signs Contract Extension With York9 FC
April 29, 2020

Toronto, ON (April 29, 2020) – Left-back Diyaeddine Abzi has extended his stay with the Nine Stripes
until at least 2022.

The 21-year-old made his professional debut one year and two days ago in the inaugural Canadian
Premier League match against Forge. He went on to score his first goal for York9 FC against
the same opposition in October and finished his breakthrough campaign with 30 appearances
in all competitions, contributing four assists.

Having joined York9 in February 2019, the former AS Blainville player enjoyed an impressive debut
season that led to him being nominated for the CPL’s Best Under-21 Canadian Player of the Year.
Two months ago, he was named in a provisional 50-man list for the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic
Qualifying Championship, which has since been postponed.

Along with Morey Doner, he agreed to terms for 2020 in December, and he now joins his fellow
attacking fullback in signing a further extension.

Abzi said: “This club has meant so much to my development. This is my first pro club and I’ve
come so far since I started, and I know the coaching staff see that as well. I’m really excited
to be staying here and keep getting better.”

Managing consultant Angus McNab added: “We are delighted to announce the contract extension
for another young, talented Canadian player who has been given an opportunity to flourish with
the formation of the Canadian Premier League.

“Diyaeddine established himself as a first-team regular in 2019, and we feel that this deal
gives him some stability and us the best left-back in the CPL for multiple seasons to come.

“I’d like to thank his agent, Serge Epoh of Beswicks Sports, for his efforts to conclude
the deal quickly.”
