September 6, 2020--Letter to York9 FC season ticket holders via e-mail:
Dear Fans, We know this hurts. It’s frustrating, irritating and simply not good enough. We’re right there with you. 2020 has presented us with some enormous challenges but, through it all, our supporters have been relentless. Despite being so far from home over the past few weeks, we have felt a constant outpouring of love and positivity. It’s never a nice feeling to disappoint those who’ve provided nothing but goodwill. Our time in Charlottetown may have ended prematurely but there were plenty of uplifting moments we can be proud of: some spectacular goals from our captain Manny Aparicio and recent signing Alvaro Rivero, Luca Gasparotto continuing to make CPL history by playing every available minute for our club, the solidarity and eloquence displayed by our group in raising awareness for Black Lives Matter and sharing their own experiences of racism. But it was especially captivating to watch our young players step up and grab their opportunities. There was 16-year-old Lowell Wright scoring on his CPL debut, brilliantly assisted by his fellow teen, Max Ferrari. 17-year-old goalkeeper Ezequiel Carrasco deputized effortlessly against HFX Wanderers when Nate Ingham was ruled out through injury. And how about Ijah Halley and Isaiah Johnston, a pair of 19-year-olds who grew up together on various local pitches across the GTA, living out their professional football dreams at The Island Games? With these boys on board, the future is very bright. But we’ve got to swallow this now, however painful it feels. We need to regroup and refocus on delivering what our fans deserve: a team that wins titles. Rest assured, we won’t stop until that’s accomplished. From One, A Community Angus McNab
