with a few passes between them. Crosby rolls ball into box eluding a sliding defender and other players of both teams and *Broomes*
on right blasts 12 yarder into left corner of net past flying goalie Quillan Roberts.
* I had given Daniel Rafisami credit for the goal when I saw the play but the L1O website credits the goal to Matthias Broomes scored.

30 min...UM Lorence-Clarke rush down left and cuts to middle and 25 yard shot has goalie catch just under bar in center of net.
31 min...UM Irwin rush down left and centers pass for UM Crosby who first-touches 10 yard shot wide right.
33 min...UM Lorence-Clarke rush down left and low cross into 6 yard box has goalie save a 10 yard shot.
34 min...1812 Adel Rahamn is injured on kick attempt at center line and leaves field.
35 min...UM Crosby almost has ball poked away rushing his 15 yard shot down middle and sending it over net.

makes point blank save on another player's rebound shot. The defenders then clears the danger.

Attendance was about 60 scattered around the hills of the field and some small aluminum stands.
A few away supporters were here (I'd classify as Moms and Dads) but not the ones I saw the first game
of the season. There were a few drops of rain during the warm ups so I had a flashback to last weekend
when two out of the four games I attended were thunderstormed out.

*Good news for York United as the UM goal was scored by U-Sport draftee Daniel Rafisami. The other
UM game I attended almost a month ago, York's other draft pick Christopher Campoli scored and had
an assist. Tonight, I caught Campoli coming in as a sub at 71 minutes.
* The L1O website gives the goal to Matthias Broomes although the game as of this date has not been
posted on their YouTube site. Update: Friday September 10th...Watched the goal on YouTube and it
appears to be Broomes with the goal.

Both goalie's had to be good to keep the score down. UM's Aubrey Lowe made a few point blank saves
especially late when UM was pressing upfield. Quillan Roberts had some good stops too. He picked
up a Yellow at 93 minutes for argueing the awarding of a freekick just outside the box. A dangerous
position yes but 1812 has to be careful as (I asked again this week) Roberts is still the only signed
goalie for the team and too many Yellows and they'll be giving an outfield player the gloves
for a game.

Ex-Toronto FC player Jeremy Hall was a starting defender for 1812. He moved upfield at 35 minutes
when midfielder Adel Rahman had to be replaced at 35 minutes because of a leg injury. #16 replaced him as
a defender--Yep not listed on the game sheets--it is like pick a shirt from the pile and get in there!

'Coaching Genius' I have to say to Trever Guy by bringing on Markell Saddler at 62 minutes and him
scoring two minutes later.

A big result tonight as Unionville Milliken came in with a 3 win, 0 loss, 1 tie record for first place
although Vaughan was 3-0-0 with last week's rainout good enough for second. 1812 FC and Masters FA
had 2 wins, 1 loss, 0 ties record for third as their game between each other was rained out last Saturday.
Vaughan is hosting Masters tonight 90 minutes after this game starts. The playoff format has never
been outlined (I ask the coaches each week) so only finishing first in the East would guarantee a spot
against the best in the West (currently Guelph United) as the regular season doesn't end until
the last week of October.

Bill Crothers Secondary School is a performance sports academy. I heard on the news
just a few days ago that Zachary Gingras a grad of this school won a bronze medal
the 400 metres (running) at the Para-Olympic games in Japan. Crothers won a silver
medal in 1964 when the Olympics were also held in Tokyo at a time when Canada would
average one medal per summer games.

I hadn't been to this field since the last L1O season in 2019. The washrooms still are unfinished
with concrete walls which also double as the change rooms. Both teams changed uniforms outside
over by the players' benches. One improvement is the second field has now been completed which
is lined for soccer while the field beside it has its football line hashmarks. There was no
scoreboard so all times are converted from my wristwatch.
