Attendance started off slow but had climbed to over 100 by halftime. Summer night weather is over and tonight was at a minimum windbreaker or sweater weather. North Mississauga looked good tonight with a better offence (3 goals scored tonight when their previous five game season total was 3) and their defence which had allowed 14 goals until tonight. There was always a last defender back to clear or challenge a Scrosoppi forward or even play behind the goalie to make goal line clearances. I'll give credit to the backline of Davier Walcott, Tristan Watson, Tremayne Julien, and David Mutembezi. The L1O site lists goalie Thomas Arbitrio as playing in three games before tonight allowing five goals. He's a 2003. It wasn't his young age that I noticed but from my angle he seemed small compared to the goliath teammates and enemy strikers. The Scrosoppi goalie was allowed to wear a pink jersey which was OK until it turned dark then he looked exactly like the North Mississauga players all red kit making goalmouth scrambles look even more confusing. This game got rough at times with Scrosoppi pressing for almost the entire second half and plenty of fouls called and legit injuries (not merely to waste time) and freekicks awarded. This was the first win of the season for North Mississauga and they improve their record to 1 win, 4 losses, and 1 tie for 4 points. That record is now identical to Scrosoppi but Scrosoppi would rank fifth in the eight team Western Conference because of more goals scored. The bottom four teams trail the top four by quite a bit with the two third place team (Sigma FC and Blue Devils FC) have 10 points. Only the two top teams (right now Guelph United and FC London) make the playoffs to cross over annd play the two best teams in the East in this COVID shortened season. Yes I wasn't sure of the playoff structure until this week after some message board fan pointed out the fine print on the L1O site. Thanks! Scrosoppi is a new team for 2021 in L1O. They are based in Milton Ontario. That's 55.3 km west of downtown Toronto (thanks Google!). Milltown FC was a team in the CSL for the 2010 season only started by current Executive Chairman of L1O Dino Rossi Jr. They have about six players whose names looked familiar—which means they played for other L1O teams before this year. Also one of their assistant coaches, Robert Stillo, was the Woodbridge Strikers goalie as recently as 2019 (the last season before COVID). Scrosoppi is named after St Luigi Scrosoppi, the patron saint of footballers.
