Final Score:..........Masters FA...........4.........North Toronto Nitros.......2........

Attendance was about 60 on this cold night. I could see my breath in the second half. Parkas were worn
by many in the crowd.

Nitros head coach Marko Milanovic warned me before the game that I wouldn't recognize many players
from watching them the first night of the season which also happened to be against Masters. He said
all the Ryerson University players have gone back to school. “So you're down to your high schoolers”
I asked. “Yes”. A look at the players reveal YOB as mostly 2002, 2003, and 2004. Not one player
in the 1990s unless Djordje Milanovic 1994 (unnumbered jersey listing) subbed in later in the game.
One 1980s starters as Goran Vlaski played the first 64 minutes making way for that mysterious #41.
I complimented Milanovic on playing at the premier league level as there were a few teams because
of the late start to the season opted to just be in the University level or Reserves level knowing
there'd be a huge transition of rosters because of the late start to this season.

NTN goalie Daniel Delo is a 2004 and I could only fault him on the first goal when he hesitated before
coming out late to try to catch the ball on the edge of the box on the bounce.

Interesting to purists that NTN has a field player, Joshua Solomon, wear a #1 jersey although it is
the same green colour as their other field players. Delo the goalie wears #99.

More interesting was Masters lineup or the fact that I knew almost everyone. I'd heard there'd been
a rebellion within the team and someone on a message board pointed the league's suspension list
and I saw head coach Rick Titus (actually for the rest of the season, 6 regular season games),
Hubert Groves (four games), Francis Ameyaw (four games), and Misse Miyenga Randy Durand (three games).
I'd expect these were all for something on the field last Saturday (when I was at the York United
vs HFX game). The L1O site lists no cards given out at all.

Maybe four players on tonight's roster I didn't recognize so it wasn't a big shakeup.

Coach listed tonight was Devon Porter who is always on Masters' bench and manager listed as Rob Meikle
(probably related to defender Jayden Meikle). Managing like asking a player “Are you good?” depending
on the response meant it was time for a substitution. Actually Titus did show up to drop off
an equipment bag before the game but said “I can't go on the field”. That avoided a possible league
violation and also a huge puddle caused by the hours of rain we had this afternoon to go with
the 48 hours of rain we had Wednesday and Thursday. The field was dry enough because
it is a modern field turf.

I had seen former Masters captain Adam Czerkawski on the defensive line of Blue Devils FC last night.
That win and a later result a few hours later with FC London upsetting Guelph United mean Blue Devils
moved into first place in the Western Conference. The previous league I covered had some owners who
played hardball and wouldn't have allowed a player to play for any other team in the same season.

Defender Michael Fayehun also was not listed. I asked “Was he at a wedding?” “Yes”. He is a photographer
and like a lot of players has to make a living.

Referee Brian Butler gave out only two Yellow cards in this game that I counted, both to Masters players
who were more the aggressors, stepping into challenging tackles that their brawn would beat the NTN
youngsters. Both teams needed to call in their trainer a few times.

The win improves Masters record to 4 wins, 1 loss, 2 ties for 14 points which would keep them at the least
tied for second as they had an identical record to Unionville Milliken SC who were playing Darby FC
at the same time as this game.

Nitros record falls to 1 win, 5 losses, 1 tie for 4 points and they would stay in a tie for sixth in the
seven team Eastern Conference at least until tomorrow when Woodbridge Strikers will try to win their
second game in a row.
