Final Score:....Vaughan Azzurri.......3........Masters FA.......1.......

Attendance was about 30 on this cold night with a strong gusty wind from the north.  Masters even 
brought some of their fans but the late start and rain all day and until game time cuts into the size.  
Also this could be considered a 'nothing' game for fans as playoff placings have been decided with 
Vaughan clinching first a few games ago and even won the league's trophy for winning the regular 
season (beating the Western conference's best team Guelph United).  Masters had already clinched 
second in the East...good as Woodbridge Strikers was playing 30 minutes later and won their sixth 
game in a row to close to within one point.  

Masters FA have lost their last two games (tonight and against super hot Woodbridge on Saturday night).  
Losing this game was not too important but just not to have the game too rough.  They also played 
Vaughan on September 4th and hung on to tie them 3-3 but had four players Red carded and five 
Yellow cards, finishing with nine men. (not all the players Red carded were on the field).  This game 
also drew suspensions for head coach Rick Titus (seven games) and manager Hubert Groves (four games). 
Titus still had to watch the game as a spectator at last night's game.  Their leading scorer 
Reshon Phillips (11 goals tied for second in the league) was injured at 73 minutes and had 
to be helped from the field straight to the locker room.  That's not a good sign for this weekend.  

Masters are the L1O defending champions carrying back from the 2019 season.  No games were played 
last season.  Masters were in the Canadian Championships and were drawn against CPL York United.  
They were in the game until 67 minutes trailing only 2-0 before York pulled away to roll 
up a flattering 5-0 score.  

It's hard to say if anything was learned in this game but Azzurri made sure they rotated in their 
max seven subs giving all of them more than 15 minutes of playing time.  

Vaughan is a well balanced team.  Gianluca Sciortino (2002) was given his first start of the season 
after six substitute appearances and scored his first two goals of the season.  They don't have any 
of the L1O leading scorers but they have a balanced attack with 38 goals in 12 games which is second 
best only to Guelph.  

Vaughan also have the stingiest defence with Christian Calabro (2003) playing nine games with 
a 1:03 GAA (even last night in that wind storm, it still looked like an own goal by the defender 
marring his shutout).  Anthony Guerrieri has played the other three with a 0.67 GAA.   Only dangerous 
thing tonight as Calabro cleared the ball twice that hit the heads of Masters players and maybe 
could have resulted in goals. 

I usually do a better job in filling in assists by asking the goalscoring players after the game.  
Players fled back to the dressing room as soon as the game ended and I can understand with the 
cold weather.  I was cold too and had wet feet with the field moisture soaking through my running shoes.  
I had stood near the north end so I'd have the wind at my back to protect my notebook (pen and paper 
notebook) while writing with my coat stopping the pages from flapping around.  At least there was 
no rain falling on it while I was writing.  Hey I've got to work tomorrow so I better get home!  
The YouTube record provided a bit of help piecing events together.

Masters also wore their 'white on whites' which is an all white kit with graduated pink rising 
to their shoulders.  OK except their numbers were also white so impossible to decipher from a distance 
at night with lighting just making the players visible through what looked like sheets of rain.  
Black numbers would have been perfect.
