Final Score:...York United FC........1.........Forge FC.......3.......

Attendance was not announced but looked but looked about 2/3s of the Saturday crowd which was finally
listed as 1126. The weather was dreadful because it had rained all afternoon and continued at its hardest
at halftime. At least there was no wind. I thought that a lot of the fans were watching from
the concourse but a walk along there before the game revealed that wasn't much protection.
This game had been rescheduled from earlier in the year--maybe even twice if I look into it because
of Forge doing so well in both the CONCACAF League and their progress to the semi-finals in the
Canadian Championships. Forge were playing weekend-midweek-weekend for quite awhile now and even after
all other teams finishing their regular season on the weekend, Forge still have two more regular season
games to play. Besides the competing with the weather for attendance, York were also playing on a weeknight
at 7:00pm which means a tough commute from downtown with enough time to pick up family members.

York had clinched the fourth and final playoff spot on the weekend. They had lost 2-1 in their game
against Forge in Saturday's first game. While I was on my way home, the FC Edmonton hosting
Valour FC game was going on with Edmonton taking a 3-0 lead with Valour eventually coming back to tie
3-3 but a tie wasn't good enough to pass York on their last game of the season was Valour was out.
Valour doesn't have a good road record so the result wasn't a surprise but Edmonton playoff run ended
a few weeks earlier so it was hometown pride that must have inspired their effort.

Sunday had HFX Wanderers hosting last place Atletico Ottawa which would have been an expected win
for HFX leaving tonight's game a must win for York but it didn't happen as HFX had a one goal lead
but their former MVP of the previous season Matthew Arnone now playing for AO scored to tie but then
kicked over a corner flag picking up his second Yellow card leaving his teammates having to survive
the game's last 30 minutes down a man. HFX couldn't score so a tie wasn't enough for them to pass
York and they are out of the playoffs. So York backed in without playing their final game!

Nate Ingham wasn't even on the bench for tonight's game. He had to leave the game after an injury
in Saturday's game. A York video tweet posted just before the game showed players arriving and
there was Ingham walking in with the other players--OK nothing wrong with that--then he jumped high
and clicked his heels. Not something you'd expect as someone who was listed as suffering a groin
injury. Maybe that's a code that he's alright and is just being rested.

The spare goaltender tonight was Eleias Himaras who has been brought in as an emergency backup for York
this season. He normally is a goalie for FC London of League1 Ontario. I watched him play on Sunday
October 24th which was the final game of the season for London who had to win to pass Blue Devils FC
for the final playoff spot in the Western Division but the team lost 2-0 in Oakville.

With no way to move up the table, this was a good night for York to put in players who often don't
get a start and even put in some debutants.

Javier George made his first appearance and got a start in the midfield. He is only 20 and an
international for Guyana. OK he can compare notes with Forge's Emery Welshman who also plays
for them although being born in Pickering but being allowed to declare internationally because
of his parents. George was born in Guyana but moved to Canada at age six and he could declare too.

Muslim 'Muggsy' Umar started on the bench but got subbed in at halftime when coach Jummy Brennan
made three changes to shake things up with the team down 2-0. He played forward replacing
Jordan Faria who himself has had few starts because of a long injury at the start of the season.

Captain/defender Roger Thompson wasn't in the lineup nor was forward Julian Ulbricht, nor wingers
Michael Petrasso nor Max Ferrari. Cedric Toussaint's absence can be explained easier as he's serving
a two match ban for Yellow card accumulation.

Later the team stats for U-21s were released and York had 8494 minutes shattering the 1500 minimum mark.
Max Ferrari led the team with 2159.

Matteo Campagna received a rare start and was pushed in at defence and played well. Ijah Halley
started as a forward with Lowell Wright to form a very young forward line.

This would have been a game for Forge to load their lineup with U-21s if they were having
trouble reaching the league's young players' quota. I'd read two weeks ago they might be in trouble
but was assured at tonight's game they were fine. A win tonight would guarantee first place
for the regular season and home field advantage for both the semi-final and final. That will cut
down on their travelling across to western Canada in combo with trips to Central America as
they keep advancing in the CONCACAF League round earning a spot to the semi-final in it as
well as being the first CPL team to earn a spot in the CONCACAF	Championships next year!

Forge earned two goals from 30 yard freekicks. Tristan Borges banked his freekick down the middle
off the underside of the bar in one of those 'Goal of the Year' nominees at 23 minutes. Mo Babouli
took a freekick from the right and Alexander Achinioti-Johnsson flicked a header from 10 yards
just changing the ball's direction into an uncovered part of the net to put the game out of reach
at 72 minutes.

Lowell Wright scored his sixth goal of the season with ties him for the team lead with both
Alvaro Rivero and Diyaeddine Abzi.

Hey after a busy weekend of York United and League1 Ontario games, I expect this will be the last
game of the season that I attend. I've fallen behind in writing up more detailed game reports
so I can do that while watching national team games and CPL playoffs from the comfort of home.
