PATRIOT GAMES: A PROUD DAY AS YORK UNITED FC NAMES ALL-CANADIAN STARTING XI
The side drew 2-2 with Pacific FC on Thursday night.

For a couple of reasons it turned out to be a special Canada Day for York United FC.

Firstly, there was the sheer excitement when substitute Jordan Wilson powerfully rose through the air
and headed home an equalizer against Pacific FC with only eight minutes of normal time remaining.
Jimmy Brennan's side subsequently held out and claimed a 2-2 draw, picking up a first point
of the club's new era.

Secondly, the group's Under-21 minutes continue to grow at a staggering rate. The league requirement
is 1,500 for the entire season. After just two games, York United FC's tally is 708: an incredible 47%
of what's needed for the campaign. Against Pacific FC, four U-21 players started the game:
Terique Mohammed (21), Isaiah Johnston (19), Cedric Toussaint (19) and Lowell Wright (17). Three played
the full 90 minutes, while Ijah Halley (19) came off the bench late in the second-half.

Thirdly, it was an incredibly unique starting XI.

All eleven players that began the game are Canadian. With Niko Giantsopoulos, Jordan Wilson
and Ijah Halley included in the match-day squad too, that made 14 of the 18-strong group.

"That's what this league is all about," Brennan said in advance of the Pacific FC clash.

"Giving these young Canadians an opportunity to get out there and express themselves and play
the game that they love. You got a glimpse of them at The Island Games. You're gonna see an awful
lot more of them this year."
