Final Score:.....Pro Stars FC........3..........Guelph United........2.........

Attendance was about 150 people. This was the first game Pro Stars have hosted at Victoria Park
this season. It has lush natural grass. Their first 'home game' was last Saturday and was held
at Terry Fox Stadium, 3.1 km away which has artificial turf. Fans of 1812 FC Barrie may remember
that as the home stadium for that one-year lived team playing in that Covid year 2021. Of course
Brampton won't allow games at Victoria Park before the start of May. If Pro Stars make the six team
playoff (for the 22 teams in L1O), they just might be able to play a home game at Victoria Park
before the city shuts them out. (I remember other league's with October playoffs where Brampton
teams had to make alternate plans). The motto of Brampton is 'The Flower City' which I've seen
on City of Brampton trucks although I picture more like Clint Eastwood scowling “Get off my lawn”.
With Pro Stars sporting two wins (Sigma FC and now 2021 L1O champs Guelph United) in three games,
it may be a possibility.

The afternoon weather had been nice but the temperature dropped like a rock. I went back to my car
before the game started and switched my hoodie for my parka and didn't regret it. Halftime found
fans bringing in blankets to hold off the cold. My hand was shaking like a leaf when I held my phone
to interview Guelph co-head coach Keith Mason after the game.

This turnaround was eerily similar to last Sunday's game where I saw North Mississauga score two
goals in two minutes to turn a loss to a win although they waited until 75 and 76 minutes.

I didn't know if Guelph was distracted by thinking ahead to them hosting a game on Tuesday in the
Canadian Championship preliminary round against HFX Wanderers FC of the Canadian Premier League.
Guelph has one player from their 2021 team claimed by HFX in the U-Sports draft in the spring
and that is defender Colin Gander.

Guelph was playing without Lucas Doros who was serving a suspension for picking up a Red card
in last Saturday's game against Alliance United FC. I saw Thomas Skublak in the stands. He said
that's it's uncertain if he'll play on Tuesday. (HFX fans will remember him playing for them
in 2019 although he came from L1O Vaughan Azzurri before that time). I don't see him on the
league stats for this third week of the season so far. Reginald Laryea (has famous Cdn national
team brother) had a strong game in defence...he came over from last year's Eastern Conference
champions Vaughan Azzurri.

Guelph has a deep roster with players they can call up from the university. I suppose it was like
Vaughan was able to do with York University players who would play if they didn't have a school game
that weekend but they'd have alumni able to play anytime.

Pro Stars (this is the first L1O team I've seen twice this season) looked a lot better than
their opening weekend against Vaughan. They have a solid young team with 14 of the 20 in today's
roster born this century! 2001 born Chidiebere Nnolim had the best non-goal shot of the game
with a mid-air blast of a partially cleared ball from 35 yards from the slight right off
the top of the bar.

Also in the stands were CPL York United FC forward Lowell Wright and his father who is easy
to spot as he wears his son's numbered York away kit to each game he attends. Lowell answered
me after the game that he used to play for Pro Stars in their academy team so I can see this
would be a good way to catch up with old friends. He is a 2003 so he'd know a lot of them.

Coming from a different generation of York United.....oops York 9 FC is Justin Springer the
co-head coach of Guelph who was a defender on the 2019 team.

Guelph's record falls to 1 win, 1 tie, 1 loss in this young season. The league is looking forward
to Guelph giving a strong performance to showcase League1 Ontario. Even a Pro Stars team official
said to Keith Mason “See you on Tuesday” on his way off the field.
