Final Score:......Prostars FC........3........Windsor TFC.........0.........

Attendance started off slow and picked up to a peak of about 50 near halftime. This game
started with a heat of 34C or worse and gradually cooled by halftime (well cool if you were
watching from the stands but still brutal to play in). The sun was burning down from the
southwest by the time the game started and the game finished before it got dark.

Prostars dominated this game from the start and whether running into or away from the sun,
the action was mostly in the Windsor end. Prostars best rushes were on the counterattack
when Windsor finally got out of their own end but turned the ball over and then Prostars
charged forward.

Jared Maloney earned the shutout for Prostars without a lot of work to do. I watched him
in a shooting match almost a month ago be shelled with constant shots while playing for
that night's understrength Unionville Milliken and holding the powerhouse North Toronto Nitros
to a 2-1 win.

I chose this game from a choice of three in the GTA because time is running out on me seeing
every team twice so Windsor would check another team off my list and although this would
be my fourth time seeing Prostars this season, I hadn't watched them play since May 13 but
I would catch their linescores and see they were gradually climbing the table. Why were
they improving?

So tonight's roster of 20 on the list, I counted 12 from earlier games I'd watched but there
were more guys I recognized. A Google search at home revealed they had been picking up guys
from other teams before the roster freeze a few weeks ago. Eight new guys? Alexander Zis
started this season for Guelph United, Carlo Difeo for Blue Devils FC, Santiago Patarroyo
for Scrosoppi FC, goalie Jared Maloney for Unionville-Milliken, Uday Arora for Alliance United,
Marcos Nunes (for Woodbridge in the preCovid era), and Bradley Ogbevuon and Christopher Campoli
from North Mississauga SC. Campoli has been a U-Sports Draft pick of CPL teams York United FC
and HFX Wanderers over the last two years so I'm sure he wants to keep his name up there
on a playoff team rather than an also ran.

I lamented about Simcoe County Rovers and Electric City FC coming into the league this season
and scooping up a lot of all-stars but ProStars has been collecting players while the season
has gone on.

Windsor manager Vancho Cirovski said to me after the game that being in Brampton, Prostars can
attract a lot of mature players whereas in Windsor he can't get older players to travel and so his
roster averages age 21. From today's game sheet I counted 14 of his 19 players were born this
century. Prostars list 10 of 20 and have two 1992 'geezers'. Prostars look like they'll have
a roster that will stay together when the playoffs start while there a few teams I can think
of that will have players tell their coach “Well thanks but it's back to school for me” when
the playoffs start near the end of August.

Windsor did come in a coach but it would still be 350km each way. It's not all expressway so let's
say four hours here and four hours back without traffic.

Prostars academy director Josef Komlodi sat in the stands and was throwing up his hands when his
players were shooting wide or being checked off the ball. He was maddest however at the referee
and one referee's assistant, Kevin Kim for being strict on the offside calls against Prostars.
Kim was consistant and called them the same way when the teams switched ends but when I called
that out, Komlodi was on his phone and didn't see the play.

Referee Robert Reid gave out only two Yellow cards to players (one to each team). I overheard him
say before the game that he may have to switch places with Kim but he held out and finished the game.
He scheduled a water break in each half which was greatly appreciated by the players as they could
talk a little strategy besides rehydrate.

Some explanation leading up to the Red card. At 23 minutes WTFC Dillon Hayes and PS Chidiebere Nnolim
crashed heads at the center line and both players needed their team trainers. The referee called
for a water break as nothing was going to happen anyway with the players being examined. He also
gave a Yellow card to Hayes as the instigator. When play finally resumed Nnolim was waved back
into play almost instantly whereas Hayes was held back and was also out of position as a defender
on the wrong side of the field. Manager Cirovski told me and Komlodi that's what made him mad
and he was trying to kick a water bottle off the table but oops, there went the whole table getting
the fourth official to call over referee Reid.

By the time I got home, all the Saturday games had finished*. OK Masters vs Pickering never got
started because the goals were deemed by the referee to be 'structually unsound' (read the tweet
from the league...glad I didn't go to that one!)

Prostars' record improves to 11 wins, 5 losses, 1 tie for 34 points. That's currently fifth
in the league out of twenty-two teams.

Windsor's record falls to 4 wins, 11 losses, 2 ties for 14 points. They are placed seventeenth
(a four way tie for sixteenth) because they have a better goals for/against record than all but
Burlington SC. Windsor's +/- record is -18. Yikes North Mississauga and Unionville-Milliken
are even worse.

Top six teams this season make the playoffs. Top twelve averaged over the next two years survive
the division split in the Premier Division with the other ten in the Championship Division.
Currently to be twelfth, you need 20 points. (current table results until end of Saturday night)
