YORK UNITED FC SIGNS DANISH DEFENDER DANIEL OBBEKJAER

The 19-year-old has spent the last number of years with Superliga side Odense.

York United FC is excited to announce the signing of Danish defender Daniel Obbekjaer.

The 19-year-old centre-back joins on a two-year deal, with further club options until the end of 2025.

Obbekjaer began his career with local side Næsby before moving to well-known Danish top-flight club
Odense in his mid-teens. It was there that he blossomed and in April 2019 - aged just 16 - he made
his senior professional debut for the side in a clash with domestic giants FC Copenhagen. Later that
year, he became the youngest ever Odense player to start a game when he took to the field against
Aalborg BK.

While at Odense, Obbekjaer represented his country for the first time at Under-16 level while he's
continued through various underage groups since, culminating with a number of appearances for
the Danish U-19s.

In early 2021, he enjoyed a loan spell with Serie B side S.P.A.L and spent time with the club's
U-19 Primavera squad.

“I feel very fortunate to land someone like Daniel as he’s already got such great experience for
a player so young," says CEO/President & GM Angus McNab.

"In total, he’s played 19 times for Denmark at underage level and been on loan to Italy too. In one
of the appearances he made for Denmark's U-19s, he came off the bench against Poland and his quality
was evident - his mobility was great for such a big guy. He also played ambitious passes out from
the back and just looked very comfortable trying to dictate play from deep in his own half. He never
doubted himself and took calculated risks to progress the ball further up the field."

"I want to achieve things with the team and make it as far as possible with them so I can be
remembered in the history of York United," Obbekjaer says.

"They believe in their young talents. I love that and being a part of a club like
that now...I'm very grateful."
