PRESEASON CONTINUES IN VICTORIA AS AN EXPERIMENTAL NINE STRIPES SUFFER DEFEAT TO VALOUR FC

Head Coach Martin Nash made plenty of changes from the recent win over Whitecaps FC 2.

After a penalty shootout victory over Whitecaps FC 2 last Friday, York United made the trek to Victoria, BC
to take on fellow Canadian Premier League outfit Valour FC in their latest preseason outing
on Tuesday afternoon.

Head Coach Martin Nash made a litany of changes to his starting lineup, explaining that the objective
of the trip was to get everyone's fitness up to speed and allow the entire squad pick up as much game-time
as possible.

"It's preseason," Nash said ahead of the game.

"Everyone's got to get fit and prove themselves as a starter."

It was the Winnipeg side that took the lead after 17 minutes when an in-swinging free-kick was glanced
to the far corner by Brett Levis. But, the game could easily have been level at the break when a cross
from the right side was met by the head of Mamadou Kane, who smacked the top of the crossbar from close
range.

Shortly after the restart, Valour added a second when a corner kick wasn't properly cleared and Jacob Carlos
thumped a shot to the net. As Nash began to make changes and introduce new faces from the bench, another
loose ball was picked up by Sean Rea who found the bottom corner to make it 3-0, while later in the half
Matteo De Brienne added a fourth.

"We had a lot of good moments going forward but just couldn’t finish them off," Nash said afterwards.

"We had a few too many breakdowns in defence. Just lapses that proved costly. But, the main thing was
getting players valuable minutes and seeing how they put into practice some of the elements we've been
working on in training."

York United will now remain in Victoria to continue their preparations and face Pacific FC in another
friendly clash on Friday afternoon.
