LOWELL WRIGHT NAMED IN CANADA UNDER-20 SQUAD FOR UPCOMING CAMP
The 18-year-old has been rewarded for an excellent 2021 campaign.

York United FC striker Lowell Wright has been called up to the Canada Men's Under-20 squad
for an upcoming training camp in Costa Rica.

The 18-year-old enjoyed an excellent 2021 and finished as the club's joint-top scorer with six goals,
while he added a further three assists across 30 appearances in all competitions.

The 13-day camp, led by Mauro Biello, is a tune-up as preparations continue for the upcoming
CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship that's set to begin in Honduras on 18th June.

Standout moments for Wright last season included a brace in the 2-1 home win over Valour FC
and a stunning display as a substitute on the road against then-league leaders Pacific FC
as the playoff race intensified. Entering the fray after 55 minutes, Wright changed the game.
With The Nine Stripes trailing by a goal, he firstly teed up Julian Ulbricht for the equalizer
less than a minute after being introduced. Then, late on, he turned superbly inside the area
and smashed a magnificent winner to the top corner.

"We are all delighted for Lowell," says Angus McNab, York United FC's CEO/President & GM.

"The pandemic has challenged his development as he’s missed so many opportunities to train
but he’s been working really hard and this is a really important milestone for him in what
is a really important time in his career."

Wright joined York back in July 2020 when he was just 16 years old, becoming the youngest
ever player to sign for the team. His four-year contract was also the longest in club history.
And he continued to break records when he appeared on the pitch for the first time.

Just over two weeks after arriving, Wright found himself coming off the bench in the opening
game of The Island Games, a bubble tournament arranged in place of a full Canadian Premier
League season. Seven minutes after being introduced and with his team down 2-0, Wright got
on the end of a low cross from fellow debutant Max Ferrari and finished neatly to the corner.
In the process, he became the youngest ever goalscorer in CPL history and motivated his
team-mates to boss the second half and rescue a point in a 2-2 draw.
