Final Score:...York United FC........2........Atletico Ottawa.........2.......

Attendance wasn't announced and still does not show up on the league website (as of Tuesday).
I'm not at a great angle from my position but it looked more than last week and a few
others with me and on message boards confirmed that opinion. The weather was cold but at
least there was no rain. We still need to wear a parka at night even though May starts
this weekend.

Referee Filip Dujic gave out four Yellow cards (two to each team) plus the direct Red.
One Yellow to each team was for dissent as tempers boiled over a few times.

York started off strong at the beginning of the game in possession playing much at the
start in the Ottawa end. That carried on at different times with them holding a 2-1
advantage in time spent with the ball according to game stats.

Atletico were put in a tough spot at the beginning of the game when they had two defenders injured
along the edge of the Ottawa box about 10 yards apart at only the 4 minute mark. When the
game restarted they were actually two players short. Diego Espejo was subbed out right away
and Miguel Acosta returned to the game with his head wrapped in a bandage. Acosta was reinjured
near the start of the second half and was replaced. York's Oliver Minatel was injured at 18 minutes
and he needed to be replaced.

There was a time in the second half where York had three strikers on the field with Osaze De Rosario
pushing over to a wing to allow Lowell Wright to play in the center when he came on at 66 minutes.
73 minutes had Austin Ricci come on too to press up front. Fans must have loved that but as
coach Martin Nash said after the game, it left them thin in the defence and a second defensive
mistake led to Ottawa taking the lead at 84 minutes.

This was De Rosario's third start in a row (after his first week substitution appearance)and a goal
in his third straight game which may be a record for new players to the league. He was the one
who was brought down in the box and he took the Penalty kick. Head coach Martin Nash answered
after the game that the club has not set a specific Penalty taker so he appreciated the confidence
of De Rosario grabbing the ball that he'd take the kick.

Cedric Toussaint also subbed on at the same time as Wright to play in the midfield but he only
lasted until 89 minutes when he was shown a direct Red card for what looked like stepping on
a fallen AO Chris Mannella at the York 35 yard line even though York were awarded a freekick.
That made a York comeback even more of a surprise.

Midfielder/forward Max Ferrari missed the game for York because of a knock.

York VP Eoin O'Callagan was in the press box calling the game with Jessica Lisi for Sauga 960 radio
after a week of being pre-empted because of the OHL hockey playoffs. Lisi is a striker for Woodbridge
Strikers in League1 Ontario. I plan on attending their men's team opener on Sunday night.

This game was the OneSoccer game of the week so it got a full three hour time slot with pre and
post game shows. York's other home games have been squeezed for time and cut off moments after
the final whistle to not miss the start of a game in the Mexican League. This should be fun to
play back and hear the praise for Osaze De Rosario etc. Some of the post game press conference
may actually be broadcast instead of just being edited down to 30 second blips to squeeze onto
their website.

When leaving the game after the press conferences, I was informed that the ambulance parked outside
the fence in the north end was used to take an Ottawa player to the hospital because of a head injury
suffered during the game. Because the player still did not feel right and had been vomiting it was
decided after the game that something was not right.

During the radio broadcast it was mentioned that Canadian soccer Hall of Famer Dwayne De Rosario was
in attendance to see his son and I bumped in to him on my way out. I mentioned I watched him play
with the 1997 Toronto Lynx and he answered my question about his reality show (who no one that I've
ever met remembers it) that it was Osaze as the son who was on camera in the series. Something like
The Osbournes where not every member of the family was filmed.

Tonight's tie would have almost been expected based on previous results between these two teams.
Until tonight they'd met six times and five of their games had ended in ties. York has the only victory.

York's record improves to 1 win, 2 ties, 1 loss and moves them up two spots to third place with 5 points
passing Forge FC and Valour FC. With first game of the weekend, it's easy to see they may lose a few
sports but not against Forge nor Valour as the game Sunday between those teams has been postponed
because an outbreak of Covid has broken out among the Valour players and coaches. A tie at home chews
up another game in their three game home stand but the last minute goal was a minimum for getting by.
The last game of their home stand is against Forge next Friday night at 7:00pm so we know Forge
will be well rested.

Atletico Ottawa improves to 2 wins, 1 tie, 1 loss and keeps them in second place with 7 points.
This was their first game on the road this season. They return home next Saturday to play Pacific FC.
