POST MATCH: IN A FAIRLY BALANCED GAME, YORK PROBABLY DID MORE THAN ENOUGH TO COLLECT THE POINTS
BUT THAT WASN’T TO BE

York United fell 1-0 to Calvary FC at York Lions Stadium

At times, soccer is branded as a cruel sport and on Sunday, York United suffered a dose of that
at York Lions Stadium against Calvary FC in the Canadian Premier League.

Head coach Martin Nash did not mince words when he said in his post-match that the 1-0 defeat
‘is a tough one to take’.

The Nine Stripes went down to a 73rd minute rebound goal by substitute Aribim Pepple and their woes
deepened when right back Chrisnovic N'SA was sent off seven minute from regulation time after
a second yellow.

York had 11 shots [vs 8 to Calvary's] but only one hit target and that accounts for the sterility.

They also had three big chances in the game- with Osaze De Rosario, uncharacteristically, muffed up
those scoring opportunities.

In a fairly balanced game, York probably did more than enough to collect the points but that wasn’t to be.

“I think a lot of games this year, we’ve been sound defensively. We’ve kept our structure, we've not
gotten sucked into bad areas and not giving a lot of chances away which is really good,’’ Nash said.

“I think we've been creating enough chances to win games, we're just not putting chances away
and sometimes that's a bit of confidence.

“It's a bit frustrating with some of them-really clear chances we have that we don't finish so it's
just something to work on. Keep working on those moments in the box.

“We're athletic and young and at times with young teams, when things aren't going our way,
the confidence isn't there.

“It's a tough one to take after the week we had- battled out two results [against Pacific]-the best
team in the league arguably and then come home and a drop, probably deserved something from but like
a broken record keeps coming in and we deserve more than we got out of the game so at some point we've
got to step up and take what we deserve.”

The match was physical and highly competitive and that accounted for the 10 yellow cards flashed
by referee Ben Hoskins.

“You’ve got two teams that just don’t want to lose, which is great, and I love the fight in our team,”
the Gaffer added.

“But we’ve got to learn, being a young team, that we just can’t step over the mark, because I think
we might have a few suspensions now for next week, which is going to make things difficult because we’re
a really small squad right now. We’ll see what that means, but you’re going to get that with two teams
that want to battle, give everything for three points.”

York United will be on the road to Nova Scotia to face Halifax Wanderers on Saturday, 4 June.
