MARTIN NASH WAS PROUD OF HIS PLAYERS’ EFFORTS DESPITE SATURDAY’S SLIM 1-0 DEFEAT AT HALIFAX WANDERERS
IN THE CANADIAN PREMIER LEAGUE.

Martin Nash was proud of his players' efforts despite Saturday's slim 1-0 defeat at Halifax Wanderers
in the Canadian Premier League.

The Nine Stripes were without several key players due to suspensions and injuries but they produced
another compact installment.

An under-strength York United starting line-up were not indissoluble but managed to hold their own
against Stephen Hart’s side who were winless in three games in all competitions.

However, they were undone by a 72nd minute penalty converted by Akeem Garica after Jordan Wilson had
felled defender Erick Santos inside the box.

After the contest, the Gaffer said at the post-match conference: “I thought we came and we performed
the game plan. I had 13 players available today so really thin [squad].

“I had a couple 16 year-olds called into the squad just last minute just to have enough numbers in case
you need them but it made it tough, we had to pretty much go the distance without the guys

“But I am proud of what was a great effort. Just really made one mistake and got punished.

“To be fair and it's a couple games now we have a score but playing four or five guys out of position
today just to fill the team so hopefully we’ll get some guys back healthy and get guys in their
comfortable positions going forward.’’

Defensively, York United were indissoluble as they won 17 (85%) of tackles as against the 9 [45%]
by Halifax.

With interceptions, the Nine Stripes were ahead of the hosts [24v14] and with blocks [6v3]

Stand-in captain Dominick Zator expressed satisfaction with the performance but rued that costly
mistake which led to the goal.

“I thought we're doing quite well. Obviously you have Matteo [Hernandez] coming in as right
back-not his natural position,’’ he added.

“I thought they [his teammates] played well. I thought we're holding it down quite well. It’s just
after taking so many hits, then they [Halifax] capitalized on one of our mistakes.

“So it's tough but that’s what happens when we're kind of a depleted squad at the moment with
injuries and suspensions.

“It was just time for the guys to kind of come in, step up and I thought some of the guys who
did come in, played a very good roll by it's just, it's difficult.’’

Despite going two matches without a win, the centre-back does not expect this reverse scoreline
to derail their campaign.

He expects the squad to rediscover their early season form which saw them move to second place
on the log sheet.

He added: “It's one of those you kind of have to review it and move on. It's a long season so we
can’t look at this and keep our heads down.

“It's it's about moving on and adapting and moving forward because it's a long season. Obviously,
it's tough. You never want to lose and I think we've got a team of winners, so everyone's
frustrated-you never want to lose.

“So, it’s right now making sure we're able to hopefully get some guys back from the suspension
and guys get healthy again, and come out strong in the next game and we got to start picking
up points.’’

York United are in action on Tuesday, 14 June- on the road again- against Atletico Ottawa
in the capital.
