'WE'RE ALL GUTTED FOR HIM': AUSTIN RICCI RULED OUT FOR THE SEASON AFTER INJURY

The striker had worked tirelessly since damaging his ACL last September and had made four appearances
in all competitions.

York United FC can confirm that striker Austin Ricci has been ruled out for the remainder
of the 2022 season.

The 26-year-old, a native of Richmond Hill, ON, had been introduced midway through the second-half
of the Canadian Championship clash away to Atletico Ottawa on May 11th when he sustained
an ACL injury and was forced off in the 89th minute.

Following various tests, Ricci underwent surgery under the care of Dr. Patrick Gamble
at South Lake Regional Health Centre on June 1st and he will now begin his recovery.

“We are all gutted for Austin," says Angus McNab, York United FC's President/CEO & GM.

"He’s got a brilliant mentality and we totally back him to return from this even stronger.
For that reason, we’ve already started discussions on a guaranteed contract for 2023 and hope
to wrap that up soon.”

Ricci had been training with The Nine Stripes during pre-season, as he continued his journey
back from the ACL injury he picked up in September, 2021 while playing for Valour FC.
After seriously impressing Head Coach Martin Nash with his work ethic and strength
of character, he was officially signed ahead of the 2-0 home win over Cavalry FC
at York Lions Stadium on April 23rd and was given nine minutes off the bench.

Nash was purposely patient with Ricci, increasing his load incrementally with each game.
He was involved once again as a late substitute in the 2-2 home draw with Atletico Ottawa
before contributing immensely in the superb 1-0 win over Forge FC and racking up 38 minutes
of action. He seemed set to play an integral role in the campaign until injury intervened
in Ottawa.

We wish Austin the very best as he continues his rehabilitation.
