REACTION: 'SLOPPY, TOO MANY PASSENGERS, A POOR EFFORT': NASH FURIOUS AFTER DEFEAT

Attention now turns to Friday's derby clash with Forge FC at York Lions Stadium.

Head Coach Martin Nash expressed disappointment in his assessment of York United’s 3-0 defeat
at FC Edmonton last Friday in the Canadian Premier League.

It was a below-par performance which saw the Nine Stripes concede two goals in two minutes
in the second half against the league’s bottom club.

For the Eddies, it was their first ever win over York United since the inception of the league in 2019.

Despite having 53% of the possession across the 90 minutes at Clarke Stadium, York United managed
six shots (vs 19 for Edmonton) with just one on target.

Speaking in his post-match conference, The Gaffer criticised the way they allowed the hosts to have
a field day and bite into them.

"I just had a go at the guys. I didn't feel like enough of them showed up today. Too many passengers,
poor effort. I think the minimum you can ask for is the effort and it wasn’t there today," he said.

This is the second game in succession that York have conceded three goals and the Gaffer commented
by saying:

"Absolutely sloppy. We turned the ball over simply too often. Gifted them two goals in my opinion
completely. We [technical team] showed them that exact set-piece that they scored on and we didn't
deal with it. And they tried it again and almost scored again so it’s very frustrating."

York United had a new goalkeeper - Gianluca Catalano - between the sticks, with first choice
Niko Giantsopoulos absent through injury. The 22-year-old was brought in - alongside Eleias Himaras
- on an emergency deal ahead of the game, with reserve York United keeper Matthew Nogueira
also unavailable.

Despite conceding three goals, Catalano looked decent and even saved a first half penalty.

"He trains with us regularly so I don't think it's an excuse. I thought we didn’t protect him,
we didn’t help him and hung him out to dry a little bit" said Nash.

"He did everything he could for us, saved a penalty and did so well. He worked hard, made the saves
he should make. He did really well and didn’t deserve to [allow] three.’’

York United are back in action on Friday at York Lions Stadium against rivals Forge FC in another
instalment of the 905 Derby.
