NASH PRAISES 'FANTASTIC EFFORT' BUT FOCUS IMMEDIATELY SHIFTS TO WINNIPEG ASSIGNMENT NEXT WEEKEND

The Nine Stripes grabbed four goals and three points in Halifax but momentum needs to remain.

The Gaffer joked his York United side need more away games after another vintage performance
on the road saw them crush Halifax Wanderers 4-2 in Nova Scotia on Monday in the Canadian
Premier League.

It was exactly the shoulders-to-the-wheel response Martin Nash needed after last week’s stale
output at home to Atletico Ottawa.

"The thing is, we’ve created chances all along but they just weren't going in so hopefully this
gives us a bit of confidence to keep going," Nash intimated in his post-match conference.

"Other than last week, we've been causing teams problems. We have to keep scoring goals if
we want to win games."

The Nine Stripes took the game by the scruff of the neck and quickly got on the board after
a quarter-hour thanks to Jordan Wilson's header from Noah Verhoeven's corner kick. And they
went into the break with a two-goal cushion when Osaze De Rosario struck from close range after
being teed-up by Mateo Hernandez.

Just five minutes into the second half, Aussie-import Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio capped his explosive
performance with the third before the hosts pulled one back courtesy of an Eriks Santos header.

De Rosario restored the three-goal lead with his second of the game on 69 minutes before
a late spot-kick from Akeem Garcia reduced the deficit.

Statistically, York United were better. They registered total shots of 12 [same as Halifax]
and 50% of that were on target despite shading 43% of ball possession.

Nash added: "All the guys pulled through. I thought. Fantastic effort from them today. They gave
everything. Everything I asked, they did. They've had a great attitude all year but it has been
tough with goalscoring, to be fair. It’s good to get some today and we've got another tough game
next week on the road so we have to see how the guys will come through this week.

"They're listening, trying to learn and that [performance] was good to see after last week.
It's almost like we want to keep most of our games on the road. I don't know what it is.
We’ve struggled a little bit at home for whatever reason but today I thought they gave everything
I asked. We got pressure on the ball, we didn't give them time and space. [Halifax] is a talented
football team and we were able to score timely goals today, which was big."

A brace hero, De Rosario has now tallied eight goals in 18 league appearances and remains
the club’s leading scorer.

"I want to be one of the top scorers [in the CPL] but it has been an up and down year for us,"
the 21-year-old said.

"So, I’m not thinking too far ahead: just the next game. But these games show our quality
and what we're able to do. Even though we had two goals scored on us, we were able to score four.
I was able to bag that brace - my first time this year - so I'm happy for that."
