MO BABOULI SHORTLISTED FOR CPL'S INAUGURAL PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Arriving late in the season, the attacker scored five times and managed two assists in just eight
appearances.

York United FC's Mo Babouli has been nominated for the Canadian Premier League's inaugural Players'
Player of the Year award.

A special accolade as it's exclusively voted on by fellow pros, each CPL player was asked to provide
a three-man shortlist to determine the winner. They were not able to vote for themselves or include
a teammate on their ballot.

29-year-old Babouli only arrived at the club in mid-August, with more than half of the regular season
already completed. But his impact was seismic.

With his side trailing 2-1, Babouli made his debut off the bench at home to FC Edmonton and played
a crucial role in The Nine Stripes emerging victorious after a frenzied finale saw them conjure
a special 3-2 win. It set the tone for what followed.

His first start came the following week at Tim Hortons Field against former employers Forge FC,
and Babouli conjured a special display. He rounded off a superb individual performance with an expertly
taken goal that cemented a 3-1 derby victory. Later in the campaign, he grabbed a close-range equalizer
away to Pacific FC that began a spirited comeback and ended in another memorable win, while he haunted
the Eddies once again at York Lions Stadium with a brace in a 3-1 success. And he starred once more
in a critical clash at home to Valour FC when the playoffs remained a possibility. Knowing they had
to win to stay in the hunt, York conceded an early penalty but Babouli led the fightback. He equalized
before the break and then added two assists in the second-half as the side kept their side of the bargain
and registered a big win.

In his 654 minutes on the pitch, the attacker managed five goals and two assists in eight appearances:
seven of them starts.

Babouli becomes the third York United FC player to be nominated for a 2022 individual award, following
in the footsteps of Osaze De Rosario and Dominick Zator.

The winners will be announced at an in-person ceremony on Friday, 28th October at 7pm ET in Ottawa
and will be broadcast in full by OneSoccer.
