YORK UNITED FC CONFIRMS TRANSFER OF ARGENTINE MIDFIELDER MATEO HERNANDEZ

The 24-year-old has signed for Bolivian Primera División side CD Real Tomayapo.

York United FC can confirm the transfer of midfielder Mateo Hernandez to Bolivian Primera División club
CD Real Tomayapo.

The 24-year-old Argentine was signed by The Nine Stripes back in October 2020 but had to wait patiently
before arriving in Canada. A litany of administrative delays meant he was loaned to two different clubs
in 2021 - firstly Atletico Pantoja in Dominican Republic and then to Costa Rican side Guadalupe FC - before
finally landing in Toronto. A concussion suffered during a pre-season friendly in March hampered his
preparation ahead of the new campaign and his debut ultimately proved bittersweet.

Late in a clash against HFX Wanderers that kicked off the 2022 Canadian Premier League season, Hernandez
came off the bench as his new employers chased a dramatic equalizer. As they mounted one last attack,
possession was squandered and it was the tenacious Hernandez who desperately tried to quell the subsequent
counterattack. He received a red card for his troubles and was later slapped with a four-game suspension.

His run of consistent appearances for the side coincided with an injury crisis that resulted
in a threadbare squad for the middle third of the campaign so Hernandez was often called upon to play
a variety of different roles around the pitch, though rarely in his preferred central midfield spot.

In total, he appeared 19 times for the club across all competitions and registered one assist
in the 4-2 away win over HFX Wanderers.

“Mateo's time with us was a little disrupted," says Angus McNab, York United FC's CEO/President and GM.

"2021 was very challenging with the prolonged visa situation he faced but he never complained, just rolled
his sleeves up and got going at both Pantoja and Guadalupe. This year he never really found a rhythm
because of the injury he suffered in pre-season and then his suspension early on. His versatility was
really useful for us as a team but it also meant he didn’t get to nail down a spot as his own. He’s a
fantastic guy and this transfer was the best move for all parties, especially given his desire to be closer
to his family. We wish him every success in the future."
