Attendance eventually climbed to about 80 on this cold and overcast late afternoon. Blue Devils are back to Sheridan College for the second year in a row. I was thinking of the rain that I read was supposed to fall (in Toronto) but realized that fans are protected by having a roof over the stands so dry spectators guaranteed. This was another test from a team in the breakaway quality of the top seven (Blue Devils) in the league (six made the playoffs) and the rest fighting for a top twelve spot to survive the division split at the end of this year. The reverse match last season was Blue Devils were on the road May 1st and came away with a 1-1 tie. Lucas Birnstingl earned the shutout for Blue Devils without having to make anything but routine saves. My biggest surprise was at the beginning of the warmup two goalies came out in uniform but neither was him. He came out later and this stalwart was the starter...since at least 2018 (L1O only started in 2017). Marcus Riviere made his debut for Blue Devils coming in at 62 minutes and scoring nine minutes later. Good for the 2004 born player. I counted five crosses sent across the box from both sides between his appearance and the goal. Windsor played OK in the first half but the backbreaker was giving up a second goal in first half added time sending them back to the dressing room. A surprise to me was that at least one Windsor player was in the stands as their bench was already maxed with the seven subs allowed. I told him I was impressed because over the years it was sometimes difficult to bring a full complement for the 3+ hour drive to Oakville (333 km)...the GTA is even further than that. He answered that the team had brought some of their U-21s for the experience. The team came to the game in the Lancers' bus (University of Windsor). Windsor will play their first home game of the season next Sunday afternoon at St Clair College in Windsor moving back into the city after a few seasons out of town. Referee Mahboob Gulestani issued three Yellow cards (two to Blue Devils) per the league stats (I was sure I counted a third given out to Blue Devils) in a game that had some hard checking with trainers having to be called in a few times to help treat players. Blue Devils record improves to 1 win, 1 tie this season (last week was a 2-2 tie here against one of last season's other top seven teams--Guelph United. Windsor's record falls to 2 losses and they are still looking for their first goal of this season.Rocket Robin
