On Saturday, May 31, the Canadian Premier League hosts a regular-season match between York United and the Halifax Wanderers
in Québec City as part of its CPL on Tour series.
The 2025 CPL on Tour match kicks off at 7 p.m. ET at Stade Telus-Université Laval. Tickets are available at canpl.ca/quebec.
Here is everything you need to know about Saturday's match and all of the celebrations surrounding this historic occasion i
n Québec City:
What is CPL on Tour?
The Canadian Premier League launched its On Tour series last year.
This is the second edition of the series, which brings regular-season CPL matches to cities across the country, with an eye
toward connecting and expanding the league into new communities.
In 2024, the inaugural match was played in Kelowna, B.C., where Vancouver FC hosted Cavalry FC.
Where is CPL on Tour in 2025?
The Canadian Premier League's 2025 On Tour match will be played at Stade Telus-Université Laval in Québec City. The Stadium
is the home of the Université de Laval Rouge-et-Or.
This is the first time a Canadian Premier League match has been played in Québec City, making it the seventh different province
to host CPL action in the league's seven-year history.
For those unable to attend in person, the match will be available to watch live on OneSoccer in both English and French.
What are the other events surrounding the game?
This year's On Tour matchweek features a three-day series of exciting events and celebrations.
It all begins on Thursday at Parc Victoria with the CPL On Tour: Québec 2025 FanFest. The two-day event will run from 12 p.m.
to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30. Players from both clubs will be in attendance, as well as the league's
trophies and many other prizes and giveaways.
Then, on Saturday, May 31, a ticket to the CPL on Tour match gives fans an opportunity to take in a U-19 showcase match
featuring the next generation of the province's top players (12 p.m. ET) and a viewing party of the 2025 UEFA Champions League
final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan on the stadium's big screen (3 p.m. ET) before the main event kicks off at 7 p.m.
Who is playing?
York United
2025 Record: 2-1-5 (7 points) - 6th in CPL
Goals For: 11
Goals Against: 13
In their first season under Mauro Eustáquio, older brother of Canadian international Stephen Eustáquio, York United are looking
to find their rhythm.
They come into Saturday's match on the back of a 1-0 victory over Vancouver FC, but it was just their second of the season
after also beating the Eagles 2-0 in their first match of the season.
During a frustrating six-game winless streak in between, they dropped a stunning 14 points from winning positions -- but will
come into Saturday's match hoping they have turned a new page on their 2025 season.
Halifax Wanderers
2025 Record: 5-2-1 (17 points) - 1st in CPL
Goals For: 12
Goals Against: 7
The Halifax Wanderers enter the weekend at the top of the Canadian Premier League table after defeating now second-place
Atlético Ottawa 2-0 at home this past weekend.
They also won the first meeting between these two sides earlier in the season, coming from behind at York Lions Stadium for
a 2-1 victory back on April 13.
The Wanderers roster features nine players who were either born and raised in the province of Québec.
With a win on Saturday, they would set a new club record for wins outside of Halifax during a CPL regular season.
Key players to watch:
MF/DF - Elijah Adekugbe (York United)
York United's captain has been with the club since 2023, and in the league since its inaugural season. A talented and tenacious
holding midfielder, he can also play as a central defender. He is the brother of Canadian men's national team player,
and Vancouver Whitecap, Sam Adekugbe.
FW - Massimo Ferrin (York United)
Ferrin played his first two seasons in the league with the Halifax Wanderers, but hailing from Mississauga, Ont., he returned
home to play for York United this season. One of the league's most lethal attackers, he is searching for his first CPL goal
this season, and would love for it to come against his former side in Québec City.
FW - Julian Altobelli (York United)
Altobelli enters the weekend tied for the lead in the Canadian Premier League's Golden Boot race, with six goals. A former
player in the Toronto FC system, he has quickly established himself as one of the league's most lethal attackers in his first year
with the Nine Stripes.
DF - Thomas Meilleur-Giguère (Halifax Wanderers)
A native of Repentigny, Québec, Meilleur-Giguère won a CPL title with Pacific FC, spending five seasons on the Island before
joining Halifax Wanderers this past year. A former product of the CF Montréal academy, he is considered one of the best defenders
in the CPL.
MF - Lorenzo Callegari (Halifax Wanderers)
A technically brilliant midfielder who suited up for Paris Saint-Germain under Unai Emery, Callegari also represented France
at multiple youth national team levels. Since joining Halifax in 2023, he has established himself as one of the league's
top midfielders.
MF - Sean Rea (Halifax Wanderers)
Rea is another player returning to his home province for Saturday's match. The Montréal native is in his fourth season in the CPL,
having also suited up for hometown CF Montréal in MLS. Capable of moments of magic, Rea is an exciting attacking player
who is key to Halifax's offence.
