Here are my comments on the Canadian National Soccer League (CNSL)
game between Toronto Jets and Toronto Italia played Thursday August 31,
1995 at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York at 8pm.  This was
considered an UMBRO CUP game.

1st half

8 min Jet Marcucci injured, goes out of bounds for two minutes. 
Looked like a thumb in the eye.

19 min Jet Gamble gets open and passes crossfield for tap-in goal but
flag up for offside.

21 min Italia GOAL  Maradona passed from his own 45 yard line on left
side of field in a high loft that landed in front of a streaking Golen
at the Jets 50 yard line.  Golen touches it behind a charging out
Perks and runs to about the 25 yard line with Perks in pursuit, then
crosses back to Citic on left side of net about 10 yards out who heads
it after one bounce over Ciaravino who closed his hands a bit too late
to keep it out.  (I don't have that detailed a memory; CFMT played the
hilights on their Telesera program).

26 min Jet GOAL  Zomparelli (2nd of year) heads in 35 yard pass from 3
yards out.

32 min Jet Yellow  Ferraira for high kick

34 min Jets chance as through ball turns defender inside out and
Marcucci set free but goalie charges out and Marcucci flips over him.
Both players 'injured' on the play but goalie first gathers rebound
before crumpling.

36 min Italia GOAL  Palmitta (2nd of year) blasts hard shot from 15
yards to right side of net beyond flying goalie.

2nd Half

52 min Jets sub  Gamble with Zanini
52 min Jets Marcucci leads fast break and passes fallen goalie but
then hits side of net.

55 min Jets flurry of action around Italia net gets away at least two
shots.

61 min Italia sub  Koval replaces Maradona
63 min Jets sub  Cancelliere replaces Ferraira

67 min both Spadafina and Houston injured as heads hit?
71 min Italia sub  Firebrace replaces Maxwell
73 min Italia yellow  Firebrace for hard hit after he's on ground.
74 min Jets yellow  ??player for protesting freekick, defender had
come back to strip ball from forwards breakaway.

81 min Italia yellow  Harapyn (goalie) for taking too long to take
goalie's ball.

86 min Jets sub  Vidaich replaces Solomita

Summary  Most of action in 2nd half was in Italia end.

Final Score;  Toronto Jets      1
		 Toronto Italia    2

Italia had mathmetically been eliminated from the necessary 2nd place
spot for CUP final play when they lost last week.  Their win tonight
leaves Jets 3 points behind St Catharines with one game to go.  St C
has finished their schedule.  Jets must beat London City by five goals
though to finish 2nd. Jets of St C play Scarborough Astros in a home
and home series!!

Jets 11 shots  Italia 10 shots;  from the league stats guy.
Attendance about 200 people.
