Subject: CNSL Toronto Jets vs Toronto Italia 7/9/95

Here are my comments on the Canadian National Soccer League (CNSL)
game played at Esther Shiner Stadium on Thursday September 7th, 1995 at
8:00pm between Toronto Jets and Toronto Italia.  This game was
considered a LEAGUE game (last Thursday they met here for a CUP game).

Toronto Jets (white socks and shirts, blue shorts and shoulders, black

Tonight's game was played on a cool night (50F=10C) on soggy turf with
the Football hash marks painted on the field.  Puddles sometimes
stopped a pass dead in its tracks.

1st half

14 min Jets Marcucci hard low shot saved as best early chance of
night. 15 min  Italia Firebrace gets injury to right leg at Jets 40
yard line and is down for two minutes.

21 min  Italia Yellow card to Mossavat for grabbing Jet shirt rather
blatantly.

24 min  Italia Ciric takes hard shot which defender saves on the line.

26 min  Italia Firebrace breaks through left of net, hard banana shot
to top right corner tipped away by goalie.

32 min  Jets Yellow Ferraira for hard tackle.

41 min  Jets GOAL  Marcucci (6th of season) takes low bouncing shot
from 20 yards out which bounces over sprawled goalie.

Up to now the referee allowed every call of a contested ball, if
whistled down, to go to the defender.  For the rest of the game, he
called a few for the offense which resulted in some free kicks from
close in.

2nd half

51 min  Jets Mazza injured near midfield

61 min  Italia sub  Chirillo replaces Firebrace.
62 min  Jets sub  Zanini replaces Solomita

66 min  Italia Palmitta free kick wide of 5 man wall and three feet
wide of post from 20 yards out.

74 min  Jets Masrcucci's bouncing shot saved.
76 min  Italia Chirillobreaks through but weak shot at charging
goalie. 
80 min  Italia sub  Criljen replaces Vaiano
83 min  Jets sub  Tournie replaces Marcucci

85 min  Jets Rizzo crosses to Zomparelli who shanks shot wide (like
most of game).
89 min  Jets same play, same result except crossed by someone else.
These plays were the result of Italia pressing for the equalizer and
being exposed in the defense.

		Toronto Italia   0

Attendance was a pathetic 70 people (my estimate but I could have
counted everyone in a few minutes.

I'll post the CNSL standings sometime this weekend.
